Summer Bucket List For Kids

Now that we are a few days into the Summer break from school, all the excitement is starting to wear off. Time to make our summer bucket list for kids. We sit as a family and talk about all of our “wishes” for the summer.

In the beginning of summer it seems like you have all the time in the world, but reality is it always goes quickly. Scheduling out all of your adventures makes them much more likely lot happen!

Blank Summer Bucket List

The quote on this paper says “let’s make today an adventure kind of day” I love that because there are so many different kinds of adventures. When you include the whole family in making this list, you are sure to have adventures in art, vacations, outdoors adventures and more.

Blank My Summer Goals

This was my favorite page to fill out with the kids. Each one has their own page, and they are making their own individual goals. There’s a place for 3 goals to read over the Summer, 3 things to see over the Summer, 3 ways to serve over the Summer, 3 things to practice over the Summer and 3 places to visit over the Summer.

This is a good time to discuss the difference between wishes and goals. Wishes are something that you hope will happen, but a goal is something that you are actively working towards completing.

50 Summer Bucket List Ideas

Make “I’m bored” a thing of the past. A bunch of these are ideas that definitely involve a parent; but there’s also a bunch of ideas that the kids can do on their own.

1. HAVE A TENT NIGHT IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD

Camping in the back yard is just as good as going to the woods, if not better. I have access to a bathroom when I need it and we can sleep inside if someone gets cold or sick.

2. STAY IN YOUR PAJAMAS

Stay in your pj’s all day and it is okay. I actually relish in the days that I am not required to get everyone ready to go somewhere.

3. GO TO LOCAL SPLASH PADS

I cannot say enough about how much I love splash pads. They are super fun for the kids and you don’t have to worry about them drowning.

4. READ A BOOK

We created this Summer Reading Bucket list to inspire you if you are looking for some reading ideas. Also the local library usually has weeking activities for the kids.

5. HOLD A NO-ELECTRICITY DAY

This could be a great way to limit the iPad, TV, phone, computer time with your kids in a fun way. Explore outside, make a fort, go for a walk or a hike.

6. TURN YOUR HOME INTO A RESTAURANT

Pick a meal that your family could work as a team making together. Let your kids pick some special music, set the table, and create an atmosphere that is special with its own flare.

7. PLAY NIGHT GAMES

Pick one night to let your kids stay up extra late and play games in the dark with you. Kick the Can will be a fond memory that they will remember forever.

8. PARK HOP

Make a list of parks in your area and plan out different days that you will go visit them.

9. PLAY WITH BUBBLES

There are so many fun ways that you can play with bubbles by simply mixing up a batch of dish soap and water.

10. PAINT CRAZY

One of the funnest memories I had as a child was when we painted with our feet. You could use a large, old sheet and bring it outside and let the kids go to town.

11. VOLUNTEER AT A LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER.

If you are pet lovers, why not give back and volunteer at the animal shelter. It would also be a good time to talk about the responsibility of owning a pet if you already have one or are thinking about getting one.

12. GROW BUTTERFLIES

For $20 you can open up your child’s eyes to the wonder of the formation of a butterfy in your own home. Go to insectlore.com to purchase a live butterfly garden.

13. Make an Ant Farm

My kids love to watch the ants during the summer. Get them this ant farm I found on Amazon and they will love watching them dig and move around.

14. SCHEDULE PLAY DATES

It is so helpful to schedule time to spend with your friends so that it actually happens! It is good for body and soul, yours and your kids.

15. DOLLAR STORE GIFTING

Have your kids do chores around the house to earn money to do a dollar store gifting day. Everyone gets a dollar for their siblings and they get to surprise each other with a gift from the dollar store.

16. TRASH CLEAN UP OF YOUR FAVORITE TRAIL

I love incorporating service into my kids’ summer. Trash clean up is an easy and safe service project to do with your kids.

17. RECREATE YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD SUMMER MEMORY

This is one of my favorites. If you have something special that you love, make that happen with your kids. The best part about this is sharing those memories with your kids.

18. SLURPEES/RAINBOW SNOW CONES

This is always on our bucket list. There is something about a simple day with a slurpee that makes the world just right on a summer day.

19. SWIMMING

At the pool, in your backyard, in a lake. Be safe.

20. BOATING

This is my all time favorite thing to do in the summer, of course you may not have access to a boat…but if you do….go boating!

21. ICE BLOCKING

This is an old tradition, but can make for a really fun afternoon. You can request an ice block from your local grocery store. You may want to call ahead to make sure they have one.

22. SUMMER MOVIES MEMBERSHIP

We love to do the Summer movie passes for our kids in the summer. They are typically $10 for 10 movies and they are shown around 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning.

23. STUDY ASTRONOMY AND DO SOME STAR GAZING

24. OUTDOOR MOVIE

25. LEMONADE STAND

26. GEOCACHING

27. WALKING DOGS SERVICE

28. GO PADDLE BOARDING

32. HAVE A FOOD FIGHT

Your kids will never forget this! Make it fun and get messy!

Here is a perfect step by step guide of how to make your own fluffy, glitter slime!

34. SLEEP ON THE TRAMPOLINE

35. TIE DYE SHIRTS

36. MAKE UP YOUR OWN PLAY

Kids love to play pretend! Why not put together your own presentation and wow your neighbors?

37. BUILD FORTS WITH BLANKETS

I loved doing this with my siblings when we were kids! It is such a fun way to spend an unexpected rainy day.

38. MOVIE MARATHON DAY

This is also another good idea for a rainy day! You could make it a theme of movies or stick to a series like Star Wars!

39. TAKE A CHOCOLATE FACTORY TOUR

We have a local chocolate factory that we love to visit in the summer! It is $1 per person and a magical way to spend a day!

40. VISIT LOCAL MUSEUMS

Often we do not realize what gems lie within our own town. Take a look around and learn about your local history.

41. TAKE A LOCAL TOUR BUS OF YOUR CLOSEST CITY

42. BAKE AND TAKE COOKIES TO YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT OR POLICE STATION

43. GO HORSEBACK RIDING

44. LEARN HOW TO SHOOT A BOW AND ARROW
