Favorite Family Board Games

Family game time can be one of the most fun bonding times. My kids often ask for family game night over spending time with friends or watching a tv show. And have you ever thought about the fact that learning new games is actually educational for the kiddos. Often times the games involve math, counting, colors, and reading.

There are so many different games that are great for a wide age range, which means that the whole family can enjoy playing the game. No more repetitive “Go Fish” just because the youngest one is still “little”.

Stratego – A battlefield strategy game – 2 players – Ages 8+

Apples to Apples – The game of hilarious comparisons – 4-8 players – Ages 9+

Azul – Azul is a tile-placement game in which players compete for the highest score by claiming tiles and arranging them on their board to score points. – 2-4 players – Ages 8+

Parcheesi – Classic game of chase, race and capture – 2-4 players – Ages 8+

Who wouldn’t want a laugh until you cry game?

Relative Insanity – A silly game about your crazy family members – 4-12 players – Ages 14+

Pandemic – You and your team are the last defense standing in the way of deadly diseases that threaten the world! – 2-4 players – Ages 8+

Dragonwood – Collect sets of adventurer cards to earn dice – 2-4 players – Ages 8+

Five Crowns – Rummy Style game with a rotating wild card – 2-7 players – Ages 8+

There’s also a Five Crowns Junior – 2-6 players – Ages 5+

The Great Dalmuti – A light card game where players gain status by going out first – 5-10 players – Ages 8+

Ticket to Ride – Connect cities by train – 2-5 players – Ages 8+

The kids will love turning into spies in this classic family game.

Clue – Become a super sleuth and solve the mystery! – 2-6 players – Ages 8+

Aquire – planning, building and owning the next big city – 2-6 players – Ages 12+

Sorry – players chase, race, bump, slide, and score. – 2-4 players – Ages 6+

Settlers of Catan – Civilization building game – 3-4 players – Ages 10+

Catch Phrase – Electronic Catchphrase game challenges teams to guess words and phrases – unlimited players – Ages 12+ (but we’ve played much younger)

Dominion – 2-4 players – Ages 13+

Wingspan – A competitive bird-collection, engine-building Game – 1-5 players – Ages 10+

Skull King – envois classic trick-taking game – 2-6 players – Ages 8+

There’s a few different versions of this family friendly game.

Codenames – teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first.  – 2-8 players – Ages 14+

There’s also a Disney Codenames that the kids LOVE – 2-8 players – Ages 8+

Cover Your Assets – Cover Yours, Steal Theirs – 4-6 players – Ages 7+

Pit – Fast paced and fun! Great for group play – 3-8 players – Ages 7+

Small World – Vie for area control of the world – 2-5 players – Ages 8+

Wacky Six – an exciting, speed card game for anyone who likes to laugh, loves a good adrenaline rush and can be a team player – 2-12 players – Ages 6+

This is a classic game that I played as a kid!

Skipbo – ultimate sequencing card game – 2-6 players – Ages 7+

Carcassonne – a tile-laying game in which players fill in the countryside around the fortified city. – 2-5 players – Ages 7+

Phase 10 – A rummy type card game with a challenging and exciting twist – 2-6 players – Ages 7+

Scrabble – the classic crossword game – 2-4 players – Ages 8+

Rook – Fast-moving rook card game challenges you to bid and name tricks – 2-6 players – Ages 8+

This one gets super competitive at our house!

Spot It – a game of lightning-fast choices – 2-8 players – Ages 7+

Splendor – a fast, elegant, and intuitive game in which players vie for control of gem mines, trade routes, and storefronts – 2-4 players – Ages 10+

Monopoly Deal – Fast paced card game – 2-5 players – Ages 8+

Dominos – 2-8 players – Ages 8+
