My New Favorite Amazon Delivery Location – Inside My Smart Garage

My husband and I have a goal each year to complete our Christmas shopping before the end of November. We do this so we can enjoy December with our friends and family, without the looming stress of having to complete our Christmas shopping. This really makes this season special for us so we can focus on what is most important. My husband hates fighting the crowds on Black Friday so we do most of our shopping in bed from our laptop!

We love Amazon and usually find our best deals there. This kind of shopping is so convenient and usually saves us so much time and money! However, the few days after Black Friday this does cause a bit of stress.

The Monday after Black Friday we usually have most of our Christmas presents sitting out in the open on our front porch. I have found myself racing home some of those days after I get a text notification that my packages have been delivered. I have had Christmas gift surprises ruined from being seen by my kids on the doorstep, had packages rained on, or been afraid of missing the packages.

Now enter Amazon in-garage Delivery! This is a new free service offered to eligible Amazon Prime members where they will deliver your packages inside your garage door and then securely shut your garage, keeping your packages safe and sound. Here is one of my packages being delivered inside my garage:

Now your packages are safe from snow, rain, and won’t go missing! No more asking your neighbor to grab your packages while you are on vacation or at work.

Once you set up your smart garage hub and your Key by Amazon app/account (which I will show you how to do in a moment) all you have to do is select in-garage as the delivery option when you checkout on Amazon.This way you have the flexibility to choose whether you want your package delivered to your doorstep or inside your garage. To set up your smart garage door opener with Amazon Key you will need the following:

1. The myQ Smart Garage Hub by Chamberlain
2. An Amazon Cloud Cam – Key Edition (this is optional but recommended so you can see your garage live when your delivery is happening, as well as save video of your package deliveries).
3. Download the myQ App
4. Download the Amazon Key App

Setting Up Your myQ Smart Garage Hub

You will receive two devices for the hub. One that plugs into an outlet and one that you will stick with adhesive to the inside of your garage door like so:

The package comes with step-by-step instructions to install the devices as well as the app. It took my husband about 10 minutes to install and have it working. Before you purchase you will want to verify that you have a compatible garage door opener. The size limit for Key for Garage doesn’t deliver 6ft tall packages.

Setting Up Your Amazon Cloud Cam and Key by Amazon

Once you have the myQ Smart Hub set up you are ready to set up your Amazon Key app along with your Amazon Cloud Cam. The Amazon Cloud Cam package gives you step by step instructions on how to set up your cam as well as your Key By Amazon App.

Once setup you can see all your in-garage delivery history as well as video snippets each time you open or close your garage door (see images below).

The great thing about using the Amazon Cloud Cam with your Key By Amazon account is before your package is delivered you can interface with the delivery person and watch the delivery live on your phone! Here are the safeguards behind Key By Amazon.

I’m so glad I found this free service as well as these devices that have transformed my garage into a smart garage! This Black Friday I am definitely having all our packages delivered inside my garage where it is safe and sound and snow free!
