Learning shapes is an important thing for your little preschooler. Learning shapes helps your child with pre-math and geometric skills. It also surprisingly helps with pre-reading and writing skills because letters are shapes themselves. When my daughter started learning her letters we compared many of them to shapes and it helped her remember them. The letter O is a circle, the letter D is a half circle, the letter A is a lot like a triangle, etc.
Learning shapes can also teach your child creative expression. Most children love to express themselves through art and learning shapes will help your child get what is in their imaginations out on paper. I love that art helps children express their feelings and gives them a boost to their imagination!
So learning shapes is a simple thing, but it is important. Learning about shapes doesn’t have to be boring either. Put down the flashcards and try out some of these adorable and fun art projects to teach your child shapes.
