Refinishing Kitchen Chairs in one day

Refinishing kitchen chairs in a day! Yes, you heard right. I did this all in one day! YEEE HAA. It felt good, and I’m excited about it as you can tell!  Ages ago I redid my kitchen table.  And when I say ages ago I mean a year and a half ago, I decided to redo my kitchen table. You can find
part 1 HEREÂ and
part 2 HERE. It made such a difference in the look of my kitchen and I was dying to refinishing my kitchen chairs too!
But life happened and I got pregnant, and
miscarried, and got pregnant, and also
almost lost my baby and here we are now. I didn’t mean to measure my time that way when writing this because certainly a lot of other things were going on besides babies, but looking back I can’t believe how much went on through that period of time in my life.
Last week I decided I was done waiting for help and I was going to get these chairs done. I wasn’t going to make it fancy. In fact, knowing that these chairs receive quite a beating with three children I opted for easy.
One thing I loved about these chairs was the plastic-like covered they had sealed to the print. I never had to worry about spills from the kids, but it was just too busy and didn’t quite match my kitchen colors.
I was inspired by Natalie at
The Creative Mom who redid her kitchen chairs with this fabric found from Home Goods and I fell in love! I covered 6 chairs for only $12 and that was for about 1/2 a yard per chair. That way, I know that if a chair ever does get ruined I could cover them again without too much heart ache. If you are looking for a
chalk paint tutorial, Natalie’s will give you what you are looking for. I used spray paint.
Yup! Good ol’ spray paint! I used the rustoleum brand from Walmart and used a protective spray over the top. I painted and recovered these babies in a day, and I couldn’t be happier with the result!
I think it makes my kitchen look so much brighter! I love the gray color as well because I can easily use decorations for all seasons and it will work well with any time of year! There is something so nice about doing a job and knowing it will stick around for at least a while. (This thought can be extremely nice as a Mom because so often I clean and it is dirty in NO time!!) Am I right? 🙂
Here are a few Tips:
Painting:
Make sure to use 2-3 coats of spray paint and give at least an hour before spraying another coat.
Do not get too close when you are spraying as you will have more drips this way.
Spray in a ventilated area.
If you see a drip wipe it up quick with a finger and simply spray over it the next go around.
Reupholstering:
Measure twice, cut once.
Use a staple gun or upholstery tool.
Hold fabric tight and wrap just like a present.
Extra staples in the corners are always a good idea.

Hello! I am Camille, a wife, mother of four, Disney obsessed, certified teacher, and believer in creating your best momlife the way you see fit. Motherhood comes with its ups and downs, my hope is you’ll find something here to make your life a little better/easier. Let’s be friends on social!
With the cost of a loaf of bread now a days, making my own is the best route! Having a Bosch would be amazing so I can make ore loaves at once without hand kneading!
Same here, homemade bread… is there anything better than fresh warm homemade bread? I submit that there is not.
I love to bake and have decided that Bosch is the way I want to go with a mixer. I currently don’t have a stand mixer and desperately want one! Thanks so much for the opportunity!
I would finally be able to make more than one loaf of bread at a time and could stock my freezer!
I would whip up a batch of cookies right away. My family loves home made cookies, but it is difficult to make them without a stand mixer when you have tennis elbow! I make them occasionally but would love to make them more! Thanks for the opportunity.
I’d make some yummy dinner rolls. Or chocolate chip cookies, or cupcakes, I don’t know, I just want one sooo bad! 🙂
I would make some Fall-style sweet treats for my 3 little boys to celebrate it’s impending arrival!
Seriously, I’ve never had something this amazing and would use the heck outta it to show my gratitude!! 🙂
P.S. The kitchen table refinish looks so great! I don’t believe I’ve seen anything like this before. Def. one of a kind. Think I may try this on an old sewing table I recently acquired and have liked having in my dining area but couldn’t settle on a color. I was thinking Annie Sloan country grey- but this piece here has another level of character to its color.
Thank you!
Something with chocolate!!!!
Cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies, my favorites!
I would make a chocolate cake.
I would first make some double chocolate chip cookies. My favorite!
