Having a Build-Your-Own Nacho Bar is such a fun and colorful way to feed a crowd. Add or don’t add what ever you want to create your own nacho masterpiece.

Nacho bar with slow cookers, chips cheese, meat and nacho toppings.

Build-Your-Own Nacho Bar

We love having parties and company over, but it can be a little tricky to make a meal large enough to feed everyone. This easy build-your-own nacho bar is sure to please all of your company and party goers. Instead of the typical hamburger/ hot dog dinner, spice up your night with this nacho bar idea. This is super easy to prepare and everyone loved the food. Add or don’t add any topping to make your own nacho plate.

Another nacho bar idea for a large group is to assign people to bring different toppings or have them bring their favorite.

What Do You Need for a Nacho Bar?

The two base ingredients for making nachos are tortilla chips and some kind of melted cheese. Start out with those two ingredients then you can add more to the table to give your company lots of nacho bar options.

Here are the list of Nacho Bar Toppings to have:

  1. Homemade Nacho Cheese Sauce
  2. Tortilla chips
  3. Black Beans
  4. Salsa Chicken
  5. Lettuce
  6. Avocado
  7. Sliced Olives
  8. Green Onions
  9. Cilantro
  10. Tomatoes
  11. Sliced jalapeños (fresh or pickled)
  12. Roasted Corn (buy frozen roasted corn or roast your own–grill or broil on the cob, then cut kernels from cob)
  13. Other Beans (pinto, or refried)

How Much Meat Should you Prepare for a Nacho Bar?

One pound of ground beef, pan browned and drained, will usually be enough for 5-6 average plates of nachos. We made two pounds of meat for this nacho bar and it was enough. The good news, if you make too much meat you can use it for tacos, taco salads or enchiladas the next day.

Slow Cookers for my Nacho Bar

Most of the toppings do not need to be warm, but having my slow cookers lined up and available were a hit. It will keep your meat, beans and cheese warm and ready to eat or graze upon anytime of the party. Make your nacho bar toppings ahead of time and keep them warm until the party eating begins.

For this party I used my Bella Triple Slow Cooker to keep the warm items warm. These slow cookers are perfect when you’re entertaining and especially if you’re doing a nacho bar because the cheese sauce will get firm if it doesn’t stay warm. The slow cookers have a three different temperature controls and turning it to warm kept the cheese just right for our party. Do not turn the slow cookers to low because it will continue to cook the food and we only want to keep it warm. You can use these liners for the slower cookers to make it an easier clean up.

Here’s a list of what to have in the Slow Cookers:

Add a Condiment Plate

Condiments are just another fun nacho bar topping. The homemade nacho cheese we use doesn’t have any spice so this is the best way to add some. This is what we used for condiments:

  • Sour Cream
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa
  • Hot Sauce
Plate of nacho bar condiments including salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and hot sauce.

Drinks to Serve with Your Nachos:

Make a kid-friendly lemonade bar with strawberry, raspberry and regular lemonade. We think you might also our Pineapple Cooler especially on a hot day or just to cool down the spice from the nachos.
