Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Recently I had the great honor of attending the exclusive media preview of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and it was epic in every way.

With Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge opening at Disney World on August 29th you will now have the experience to walk into the land of Batuu where you will experience something unlike any other land you’ve ever seen.

The creators of Galaxy’s edge said “We wanted to create something new that no one has ever seen before. We spared no expense and paid attention to every detail.” And they really mean it with hidden surprises at every turn!

They literally thought of what a true Star Wars fan would want to see and created the experience around that. What is the bucket list? What would you want to do as a true Star Wars fan. Live your own Star Wars story and let you choose the path and decide who you would be.

So where should you start to create your own epic Star Wars adventure?? Here is my top ten list of things you MUST do while you are there!

When you walk around in the land you are able to see what it feels like to be in a Star Wars planet. What would you buy? Where would you go? Disney Imagineers compiled every wish a Star Wars fan would want to experience and brought it to life in Batuu.

Batuu. You are in a trading port. Rogue adventures, scoundrels, largest outpost.

1. Line up Early

If this is your first time coming to Galaxy’s Edge you are in for a treat! Lines are still busy so your best chance of avoiding a crowd is to line up early. If you are staying at a Disney resort you are eligible for the extra magic hour that will give you admission into the parks one hour earlier than other guests! Take advantage of this opportunity if you can.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is unlike any experience Star Wars fans have had the chance to experience before. As the creators said, “We wanted to create a play et that would respond back to you. Bring your backyard to life of what you would do as a child.” 14 acres of the most technologically advanced expansion of Disneyland’s history.

2. Experience Batuu in the palm of your hand

Batuu was designed to be interactive and individualized. Each day there are forces at play where the tides can turn in favor of the resistance or the dark side. How does this happen? By using Disney’s interactive “Play Disney Parks” app.

Star Wars: GalaxyÕs Edge is the first land within a Disney park designed to integrate with the Play Disney Parks mobile app, which debuted last year. Guests who choose to use the Play Disney Parks app in Star Wars: GalaxyÕs Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, will be able to transform it into their very own Star Wars: Datapad. The app provides new opportunities for guests to engage with the land. (Richard Harbaugh/Disney Parks)

Make sure to bring your phone with an extra charger to experience interaction with Batuu. Through the Disney play app you can control door panels, install a radar system, or They want to be surveyed. Help them install the radar system or help them gain a way to hack into the control panels and you are all playing together. (Use your phone and have a unique experience too) it is a collaborative experience.

3. Pilot the Millennium Falcon at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

Smugglers Run at Galaxy’s Edge allows you to hop into the most beloved star craft of our generation. What I love most about the ride is that you can experience the ride differently each time you ride it! Handu Anaka, from Clone Wars, welcomes you into the story and is wanting to smuggle goods. With a little help of Chewbacca you are asked to deliver these goods to help further the mission of the resistance.

The famous main hold lounge is one of several areas guests will discover inside Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run before taking the controls in one of three unique and critical roles aboard the fastest ship in the galaxy at Star Wars: GalaxyÕs Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. (Richard Harbaugh/Disney Parks)

Each station is brought in as groups of six. You can see what the inside of the ship really looks like on film and take the coolest photos! Once you get to the actual ride you will be given a token for one of three positions: pilot, engineer, or gunner. You have to work together as a crew as there will be two of each position and the buttons you push really do matter!

If you are the gunner you will see shots blast on the screen as you try to shoot your enemy. As the pilot you will avoid collisions and launch your crew into space. Engineers are expected to operate buttons to keep the ship smooth sailing through space.

If you are given a token as an engineer, but you’d rather operate the ship as a pilot you are welcome to swap within your own group to try out different positions.

I was able to experience the Millennium Falcon as the pilot, gunner, and engineer! I loved all the positions, but the front right Pilot definitely gets the most action. Younger children would probably do best as gunners or engineers, as the lights will light up and help you know which buttons to push.

The level of fun on this ride definitely depends on who you’re riding it with. Have fun with it and know that even if you’re horrible at pushing the buttons at the right time you will still land safely.

Will Disney FASTPASS service be offered for the attractions at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge??

No. As of right now that isn’t an option, but as the park progresses and develops they may change this to create the best Disney parks visitor experience. The best thing to do is line up at the Park entrance about 6:30-7am when Disneyland opens at 8am.  They’ll let you in to line up at the entrances of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge before 8am, if you can get there first, you Should be able to go right to Galaxy’s Edge without creating a boarding group.

What Is The Height Requirement For Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run?

You must be at least 38′ tall to ride.

Millennium Falcon Lines and Passes Available.

There is a single rider line.  You can use the Switch Rider pass and DAS Pass.

4. Eat a Ronto Wrap from Ronto Roasters

This grilled sausage and roasted pork wrap is a must try! You can order your food as soon as you get in the park, so make sure you do this early and schedule your preferred pick up time.

We enjoyed pairing this meal with Kat Saka’s kettle corn it was a fun treat on the go.

5. Shop Batuu’s marketplace

You can find something for every Star Wars fan at this trading post. My favorite places to go were Toydarian Toymaker filled with toys and lovable things and the creature stall. Every single animal is unique to Batuu. I didn’t know the names of them, but when I cam home and showed the pictures to my son he knew exactly what they were as they are taken from the books and Star Wars rebels series on TV.

If you want to get even more serious about your shopping experience you can buy a full replica of the storm troopers outfit for up to $2000! No joke, this shopping experience is a Star Wars lovers dream.

Everything around you is filled with a story and wondering what the collection means. You can even purchase things that are from ancient temples, thing of the site, holocrons ancient keepers of wisdom.

6. Interact with the Characters around you!

Within the walls of Batuu you will come in contact with the resistance and the dark side. These individuals are meant to interact with you while you are enjoying the park! I helped an engineer on the ship with a control panel and helped Rey hide from the stormtroopers. Pay attention, they may be looking for some help!

7. Visit the milk stand: Try the blue milk and the green milk.

Everyone needs to try the blue and green milk! It is made of rice milk so everyone can enjoy! Blue milk is a bit more tropical tasting and green milk in more plant based and floral tasting. Find out which one is your favorite.

8. Create a droid at the Droid Depot or your own Light Saber at Savi’s Workshop

Creating a droid at the Droid Depot was so much fun! You are given the choice to create an R-series or a BB-series. The kit for assembling the droid is very simple and you are able to make it your own with various colors and parts.

Exotic finds can be found throughout Star Wars: GalaxyÕs Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The droid you make can actually interact with elements through out Batuu to warn you when you are getting close to storm troopers! They can also be customized with different personality chips and interact with each other if you happen to create more than one.

They start at $100, so be prepared! I created one for my whole family to enjoy and felt like it was a unique souvenir that everyone could enjoy.

Looking to make a lightsaber like non other? You can have the unique experience of create a light saber of your very own.

Reservations for Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers can be made up to 14 days in advance. Additional same-day reservations will be made available each day at 7:00 AM Pacific Time for visits that day, subject to availability.

At Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers in Star Wars: GalaxyÕs Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, guests will be able to build their own lightsaber, guided by ancient wisdom but crafted by the choices they make on their own adventure. Each build will begin with a personal connection to a kyber crystal used to ignite the custom lightsaber. (David Roark/Disney Parks)

To make a reservation, please check availability online or use the Disneyland app.

9. Eat at Docking Bay 7

I fell in love with the food at Docking Bay 7. I cannot cover it all on this post, but if I had to choose I would say to get the roast or the chicken Cesar salad. The menu really is fine(r) dining, so come knowing that you will be getting a good meal.

The grilled cheese is the best menu item for kids. I also ordered the dipping tray with hummus from the kids menu. The taste was amazing, but it does not look like it. I am pretty sure my kids would turn their noses up at it.

The Cantina is the coolest place for the cool kids to hang out. lol. There are drink choices that range from $7-$47 dollars and the atmosphere is really fun. Drinking isn’t our thing, so we spent our time enjoying the park. Others that I was with LOVED spending time in the Cantina! If you are interested head to the Cantina early as it tends to get more crowded as the day goes on.

The Cantina and build your own lightsaber require same day reservations (can make starting at 7 am on Disneyland website).

10. Get an Epic Picture with the Millennium Falcon.

The Millennium Falcon is certainly the jewel of Batuu. You must get a picture here! While it is technically against the rules to dress up as a character to enter Disneyland I didn’t see that as a problem in the land of Batuu. I saw many Poe’s, Princess Leia’s, and Jedis.

Be prepared for wait times and the cost of different experiences. I would say that if you are a HUGE Star Wars fan you will want to save up for this experience. There are unique opportunities to buy memorabilia and create your own light saber unlike any other. It is an awesome experience, but it can add up quick.

Aside from reserving your group for the ride, you can expect wait times for these experiences as well:

  • Oga’s Cantina 1-2 hour waits: Drinks from $7-$42 (these opportunities will close after a certain hour in the day. So if you want to get in try to do so early.)
  • Savi’s Workshop 2+ hour waits: Build your own lightsaber for $200. You can reserve your spot the day of online at 7 am.
  • Droid Workshop 45-60 min waits: Build your own droid for $100 and up

At Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers,*** guests have the opportunity to craft and customize their very own lightsabers. In this mystical experience, guests feel the Force as they build these elegant weapons from a more civilized age.

Inside Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, guests find a selection of rare and mysterious items for sale representing different eras of the Star Wars galaxy, including holocrons, ancient Jedi and Sith artifacts, lightsabers and more. As they explore the nooks and crannies of the shop, guests also see Dok-Ondar at his desk as the large Ithorian checks his inventory and barks the occasional order at his assistants.

In addition to these special experiences, the Black Spire Outpost marketplace features the Creature Stall dedicated to the plethora of rare and fascinating creatures that populate the galaxy, as well as Black Spire Outfitters, showcasing the latest in galactically trendy apparel and accessories. The Toydarian Toymaker stall is full of toys and games crafted by a Toydarian (the flying alien species first seen in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”). And all tourists visting Batuu will want to make a stop at Jewels of Bith, offering “trinkets to treasure” and other accessories.

Trading post. Everything around you is filled with a story and wondering what the collection means. You can even purchase things that are from ancient temples, thing of the site, holocrons ancient keepers of wisdom.

Depending on how busy the park is you may need to take advantage of the virtual queuing system. If you wish to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when we are using the virtual queuing system, you will need to join the virtual queuing system.

After entering Disneyland Park, you can request to join the virtual queuing system and will be assigned a boarding group, either with the Disneyland app or at select locations within the park.

If Disney is not utilizing the virtual queuing system, you may enter the land at any time—subject to capacity.

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

I hope these tips and tricks will help you to have the most epic adventure when you go to see Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. I am looking forward to the next epic adventure, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, opening on January 17, 2020! I have heard that this ride is going to be multi-faceted with interaction, hover craft abilities of some sort and choosing which side you will support as you battle!

Disney provided my park ticket and gifted me a dining gift card for this Media Event, however thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
