The BEST Family Friendly Halloween Movies to Watch

It is one of my favorite times of the year! Finding family friendly things to do and movies to watch can be challenging. As a mom it can be tricky to find the right balance between fun and spooky and I know for some it can be the WORST time of year because your kids can be miserable with too much scary. Here is a list of family friendly Halloween movies to watch that work for everyone.

Family Friendly Halloween Movies:

-The Addams Family

This is a personal favorite of mine. I grew up watching the old TV show and love the new movies. They are spooky but not too scary and very funny. The whole family will enjoy this one. Also, the soundtrack from this Addams Family 2 is AMAZING. I put together an entire spooky fun playlist you can put your email in below and I will send it to you for free!

You can find this on Amazon Prime Video.

-Hocus Pocus

This is a Disney classic that has become a must watch for many families every Halloween. It has some great life lessons about family, friendships, and being careful what you wish for. Oh, and it has Bette Midler in it so that is always a win! This is a movie that I think can be a bit too scary for some…hello soul sucking witch. Most will be okay with this story line, but be careful on this one.

-Hocus Pocus 2

If you’re a fan on Hocus Pocus one you’re going to love Hocus Pocus 2. It is a such a fun revival movie that everyone will love. In the new film, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reunite as the Sanderson sisters, three witches who are revived when the magical Black Flame candle is lit to terrorize the good people of Salem, MA.

-Curious George No Noggin

Who doesn’t love Curious George? This is a great one for the younger kids. It is about a mischievous monkey who gets into some trouble on Halloween night. But don’t worry, everything turns out okay in the end and your kiddos will love it.

-It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

This is a timeless classic that everyone should watch at least once. If you have never seen it, now is the time! It is such a heartwarming story about believing in something even when no one else does. And the bonus, it is only 30 minutes long so it’s perfect for little ones with short attention spans.

-Coco

This is a newer movie but it has quickly become a family favorite. It is such a beautiful story about family, traditions, and following your dreams. And the music…oh the music is just stunning. You will want to watch this one over and over again.

-Hotel Transylvania

This is a great one for the whole family. It has a little bit of everything…action, comedy, and even a little romance. Plus, who doesn’t love Adam Sandler? This is a perfect movie to watch on Halloween night. I also love this series, number 2 & 3 are a lot of fun, too!

-Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

This is the perfect movie to watch if you want a Halloween movie that is not too scary. It has all the hallmarks of a great Halloween story…a dark and stormy night, a haunted house, and plenty of spooky creatures. But it also has the heart and soul that makes Harry Potter so special. This is a must watch for any Harry Potter fan.

-Frankenweenie

This is a great stop motion movie from Tim Burton. It is about a boy who brings his dog back to life and then has to deal with the consequences. It is a bit dark but still appropriate for kids.

-The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is another Tim Burton classic that has become a Halloween favorite. It is the perfect mix of spooky and sweet and will be loved by kids and adults alike. Just be warned, the songs will be stuck in your head for days.

-Casper

This is a great movie for younger kids. It is about a friendly ghost who just wants to make friends. There are a lot of fun spots in the movie that help balance out the scary. But be warned, the villain in this movie is pretty scary.

You can find Casper and his fellow spirits on Amazon Prime Video.

Looking for an oldie but a classic?

-Wait Until Dark

This is a great thriller for the whole family. It is about a woman who is left home alone and has to fight for her life against a group of criminals. It is edge of your seat suspenseful and will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Just be warned, it is pretty intense so it might not be suitable for younger kids.

Now that you have the perfect movie picked out, here are some halloween themed snacks and treats to make your movie night complete!

-Mummy Dogs: These are so easy to make and only require a few ingredients that you probably already have on hand. Plus, they are always a hit with the kids!

-Spiderweb Pizza: This is a great way to dress up a store bought pizza. Just add some spiderwebs made out of mozzarella cheese and you’re all set!

-Halloween Popcorn: This is so simple to make and only requires a few ingredients. It’s perfect for those who want something sweet and salty.
