This is no restaurant Greek salad because it doesn’t have lettuce with a few scarce toppings. Instead, it uses all the toppings you love that are full of flavor as a base. That is how a traditional Greek salad was meant to be made. This Easy Greek salad recipe has a base of tomatoes, green peppers, cucumber, onion, olives, and feta cheese.

Keeping with the cooling effect of this salad, it has a handful of mint leaves. I was skeptical at first with these added to the salad, but I love the contrast it gives to the salty and sweet flavors of the veggies.

Commonly Asked Questions

  • CAN I SUBSTITUTE THE OLIVES? Traditional Greek salad uses kalamata olives because they have a salty, briny flavor that compliments the other veggies so well. I also love the deep purple color they add to the salad. If you must substitute, try green olives. Black olives won’t give you the same salty component, but in a pinch those can also work.
  • WHAT VARIETY OF CUCUMBERS SHOULD I USE? Any cucumber will work in this Greek salad. There are all kinds of varieties like English cucumbers, mini cucumbers, or regular cucumbers. I love the English cucumber because the skin isn’t all waxy and they have a nice crisp texture.
  • CAN I ADD MORE PROTEIN TO THIS SALAD? A great way to add protein to this easy greek salad recipe is either sliced grilled chicken or cooked quinoa. Some may be surprised that quinoa would go well with this salad, but I’m here to tell you it’s delicious. Also, I love that quinoa is gluten free and has all 9 essential amino acids to make it a whole protein.
  • ARE THERE ANY OTHER VEGGIES I CAN ADD TO GREEK SALAD? This salad contains all the traditional veggies like the cucumber, tomatoes, olives and peppers, but I’ve seen restaurants add pepperoncini to give it a little heat. Also radishes and carrots are other non traditional veggies you can add that will make it even more colorful!
  • WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO STORE THIS EASY GREEK SALAD? This salad is best while fresh, but if there are any leftovers, store them in an air tight container and it can last in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • ANY TIPS FOR CUTTING THE TOMATOES IN HALF? Here a is shortcut for chopping the cherry tomatoes in half. We show you with grapes, but it works the same for any round fruit. You will have those 2 cups of cherry tomatoes cut in half in no time at all.
