World War Z

To say that I see a lot of movies, would be an understatement.

Some people might find this boring, but I have to say that my husband and I don’t.  It is quite common for us to be dressed up in formals (really, a tux and a gown) from a gala or other event, and go straight to the movies when we are done.  I am sure the employees at the theaters get a kick out of it, but it is what it is.  The movies are where we truly relax, and detach from the craziness of the week at home, and business.  A double feature, used to drive me crazy – is still does sometimes – but I have overcome that little flaw in my character.  Our friends are regularly annoyed by this habit of ours, because if we get the chance to meet up for a movie, 9 times out of 10 we have seen it already.

So, I thought it only rational that I should share a review every once in a while.

The latest movie that stands out in my head, is World War Z.  I wasn’t expecting much, because so many people have hopped onto the zombie band wagon the past several years.  We ended up going with my parents, and sat down together with two large tubs of popcorn, butter, and kettle corn, and drinks.  I glanced to my left to see them sitting by me, hand in hand, and had flashbacks of the first time we watched the movie “Alien” together.  I still remember our reactions of horror as that little monster came bursting through the people’s chest…. Anyway, it was fitting that we would see this flick together.

It starts out in a normal family environment, but pretty quickly you figure out that you won’t actually breathe much for the next hour and a half.  It is intense, visual, and not for the faint of heart.  Do you remember “I am Legend” with Will Smith?  Well, it’s like that, times 10.  If you can’t handle blood and guts, don’t see it.  If you can’t handle things jumping out and making you almost pee, don’t see it.  But if you’re like me and you like those kind of things, by all means, grab your loved ones and go bond at the movies.

I saw it a second time last night with my sister, Camille, and she agrees.  The looks of horror from my family, warmed my heart.  These are things I will never forget as I age.  Christmas time, boating together, and looks of disgust as the zombies chatter their teeth and look like Llamas.  These are the days of our lives.

The acting is great, especially for this type of movie that could make you laugh if they weren’t believable.  The story line works, *crazy I know* you actually believe by the end of the movie that something like this could actually happen.

Actually, I’m still planning my escape.

Here are some ways this movie changed my life:

I will always keep a helicopter on hand just in case I need to get away.  I will now keep a food storage, something the leaders in my church have been trying to talk me into for years.  And, I have amped my running schedule so I can get away faster if needs be.  See, movies can be a real motivating and uplifting experience, if you let them.

ps. Brad Pitt is in the movie.  Need I say more?

I saw this movie last night and loved it. I am laughing so hard at your llama comment because it’s true. Benji and I were doing the llama chomping all the way home. The zombies also reminded me of Scott’s amazing velociraptor impression.ReplyCancel
