I have yellow drapes in my family room. I love them because it helps the room to be bright and cheery. I decided to leave them up for the winter because I don’t have money to get new ones right now and I think I can make them work through the winter by simply modifying the decor I have in the rest of the room. (Take these throw pillows for example.) I wanted a quick easy fix and these pillows scream summer to me. So I thought I should embrace what is and find something for the cooler months.
You know the craft I made last week? I found this fabric the same day in the “domestics” department of the store. It was $1 for the bundle of four cloth napkins. These would be adorable in my kitchen, but fabric napkins also tend to be exactly the size you need to make some easy pillow covers!
Just to be sure you may want to measure the pillow and the napkin you are working with to see if they are a size that will work. Mine was about 17″ across and the perfect length. These particular pillows I bought at IKEA for about $3-4 a piece. Super cheap.
Start by putting the two pieces of fabric (right) sides together. And sew down all three sides leaving the fourth side open.
Tuck in your pillow. Mine fit just right but I did have quite a bit of extra fabric on the one side.
I decided to just fold it up like a present and sew it up along the one side. This isn’t the prettiest solution, but it was fast and that is what I was looking for.
This is probably one of the trickiest parts is holding the fold and sewing at the same time. I used a few pins to help me and also chose the “zig zag” stitch so it would be a little more forgiving as I brought the sides together.
And there you have it Summer to Fall/Winter. I did tack down the side seam by hand after I took this picture, but this shows you how easy it was to change the pillow’s look with a quick fix!
What changes are you making with your every day decor to change with the seasons?
