IKEA SPRING DECOR

Afffordable Spring decor ideas from IKEA

Recently Jackson has been learning about ecosystems, seasons, and how a plant grows. I thought it would be a fun way to spruce up the style of our home and add a pop of color to the room to plant some of our own little seeds. Because what is more fascinating than the first baby sprout growing through the dirt that you planted? A four year old’s mind is fascinating to me. He is understanding complex vocabulary, understanding if/then scenarios, and coming up with his own intriguing questions of why the world works the way it does. Each night we have been taking the opportunity to snuggle up with him and read through Roald Dahl books. We have gotten through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and The BFG. We are currently reading Matilda, one of my all time favorites, and tonight he asked me, “Why is Miss Trunchbull so mean!?” To which I stopped for a minute and thought, (I don’t know) and responded, “Maybe she had a really hard life and it made her mean or maybe she is mean for no reason at all.” How do you explain questions like this? As the musical WICKED would say, “Are people born wicked or do they have it thrust upon them?” This is a tangent I was by no means planning to write about…but since I am on the topic; I hope to engender kindness in my children more than any other virtue; for you never know what battle a person maybe fighting. Perhaps it is in the small things day to day that we can choose to be kinder to everyone around us: our spouse, our children, our friend, our pet, and perhaps even a little plant. Did I tie that in okay? 🙂

We found this tiny little pot and seeds at the dollar store. Jackson picked out the red bucket that he wanted his seed to be planted in and I found my plants at our local IKEA. I am in love with their succulent ($2.99)collection and also fell in love with this Guzmania ($12.99) as well.  What I love most is that these plants are pretty hardy and don’t require a lot of attention. In fact I didn’t even plant them until a week after I bought them and only watered them once in between. You can see the other plant I bought in the back of the picture here that adds a fun punch of yellow into the kitchen since I have yellow curtains in my family room..and because they aren’t roses I should be able to keep this one alive, right?!

This little succulent is actually offspring from a succelent I received at my cousins wedding almost three years later. Who knew succulents have babies? Maybe it is trying to send them a hint! 🙂 You can find these adorable white pots here for only $2.99 a pop.

And, as my husband can attest I have an addiction love for throw pillows and I found this one that I just couldn’t leave behind…and these lovelies that are reversible pillow covers for only $5. Love that it picks up on the bold pattern trend without too much of a money commitment and if the kids ruin them or I accidentally pull a hole through one while ripping off the tag (whoops) it is not the end of the world.

If I would have been more on top of things I would have given you a family room view of my couch with these lovely pillows on them. But, we were still recovering from a lovely conference weekend with tents pitched in our family room. The kids were having so much fun with them I didn’t have the heart to take them down.

Much love and (kindness),

I love that about teaching our kids to be kind. I feel the exact same way! Especially with our boys, because heaven knows none of our boys will be small, and it will be all the more important for them to watch out for others.ReplyCancel

Mara, I am glad to hear I am not alone in this. After I posted this I realized there are even two more pillows I purchased black/white that I forgot to add. Throw pillows are such an easy way to spruce up a room with minimal investment. I love them!ReplyCancel
