Cauliflower Cream Sauce
Our family has been serving this cauliflower cream sauce for years with our holiday meals. It’s smooth, rich and creamy and it will compliment almost any vegetable side dish.
In addition to the typical turkey gravy for Thanksgiving dinner, my family always wants me to serve this cauliflower sauce too! It tastes amazing and I could literally eat it by the spoonfuls, which I will only do if no one is watching. Shh…don’t tell.
This is a simple recipe to follow with just a few ingredients to get the perfect creamy white sauce. It doesn’t actually have cauliflower in the sauce, but we almost always serve it over cauliflower so that’s how it got its name cauliflower cream sauce.

- Sour cream gives it the creamy and thickening it needs to be perfect in every way!!!
What is a Roux and what is a Roux used for
Roux is a mixture of equal parts fat and flour that is used for thickening sauces and soups. In this recipe we use butter as our fat to combine with the flour to form a Roux.
How To Make the Sauce
- Melt the butter in a sauce pan and whisk in the flour until it’s smooth to create a roux.
- Whisk in the milk, seasoned salt and garlic salt.
- Heat over medium heat until thickened and smooth.
- Add sour cream all at once and blend.
- Continue to heat until the sauce is warmed to serve.
What Vegetables pair Well with this Cream Sauce
All of them! Well, maybe not all of them, but I love it on most cooked veggies.
Try it on: Cauliflower, Asparagus, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and Potatoes.
Cauliflower Sauce Mac and Cheese
This sauce is so versatile because as good as it tastes over vegetables, it also tastes incredible served with pasta.
Make the sauce and mix in some cooked macaroni pasta to make a creamy white Mac and Cheese.
Cook up some fettuccini and toss it in this sauce to have a fun spin on fettuccini Alfredo.
How to Make it in the crockpot
Still follow the same first instructions then when the sauce is removed form the heat, place it in the crockpot and add the sour cream.
It can slowly warm on low to serving temperate in the crock pot and would make a fun dipping sauce.
