I think any book can be for a girl (or a boy) and it’s good to read a variety of books from all different views, but I think it’s also great to have young girls read a lot of books with strong female characters. We need to let our girls know they are strong and can do anything! I remember after reading Harry Potter my friend mentioned that she loved that Hermoine was smart and wasn’t afraid to show it. She said that Hermoine inspired her to do better in school and that’s when my friend was in college! How cool is that!?
I asked a lot of trusted friends what chapter books their girls loved and these were the responses. I asked for favorite chapter books for elementary age girls (5-11), if you click on the link to each book it will give a more specific age range and reading level for each book. If you’re daughter is too young to read some of the more difficult books you could even read them aloud together. Reading books aloud with my kids is one of my very favorite times of day! I have been able to reread some of my favorite books from when I was in elementary school and discover brand new adventures with my kids. Check out this list of our favorite read aloud chapter books for kids.
