5 components of a sweet home theater

A lot has changed since the early days of the television, when the family would gather around a TV that was no bigger than the microwave that cooked their television dinners. Today, with the technology we have, there is simply no excuse that we shouldn’t be able to create an immersive experience that is absolutely comparable to that of a movie theater within the comfort of our own living rooms. What’s wonderful about the home entertainment industry today is that there is a wide assortment of ways to set up your own system, and no two may end up alike. However, there is a handful of factors that must be considered when making your own home theater…

  1. Speakers

Audio is one of the absolute most important elements to any film/television watching experience. Almost half of everything that you think you are seeing on the screen is actually only an audio effect. For this reason, great sound is what will make or break a great home theater system. Luckily, there is a vast assortment of different speakers on the market that can deliver high quality sound. One of the latest technological advances in home audio is the capability to take the highly successful movie theater audio system, Dolby Atmos, and replicate it in home entertainment centers. Getting an audio system that is compatible with Dolby Atmos will prepare you for the future of entertainment. 1. Screen

Obviously, the screen is the main course of the entire home theater setup. It’s the turkey at the thanksgiving dinner. You can’t have it without one. This makes the decision of what to do for your screen very important. The first question that you have to ask is if you will use a TV or a projector to get your desired image. There are certainly pros to both of these options, but be careful of the side effects as well. Projectors might be appealing, initially, but you have to make sure you are getting one that can display things at a high quality. Check the sharpness and brightness of any projector before you go that way (3000 Lumens should be your minimum brightness). Also, it might be a good idea to prepare your setup for 4K, as it may well be the new standard resolution down the road.

  1. Lighting

Almost all home theater systems that are professionally done will allow for various lighting options. You almost certainly want to have bulbs that can dim and brighten at various capacities. This is because the transition from darkness to a bright room shouldn’t happen too quickly, or it will jolt the viewer out of the experience that they just had. New LED bulbs that can change brightness and color can be controlled from an app on your smartphone (which is great, because essentially the entire home theater will be able to be controlled from there). When designing the lighting, it’s also a good idea to put a dim light near the ground, so any guests don’t trip if they decide to get up.

  1. Seating

No matter how glorious the sound and image of your home theater system may be, you won’t be using it an awful lot unless you have somewhere comfortable to sit and watch. When deciding on the seating for your home theater, it’s often a good idea to go with an option that is both firm, as well as comfortable. If you get the cushiest reclining seating that you can find, you may end up only succeeding in creating a bed. And why make this completely awesome entertainment center if you’re only going to end up sleeping in it?

  1. Layout

Now that you have the rest of the components for your excellent home theater, you’ve got to find a way to put them all together in a way that is complimentary. For example, how does the room open up when you walk in? Is the doorway too close to the screen? Is the seating clumped too close together? These are the sorts of questions that need to be asked when coming up with your layout. It’s also important to not put the screen near windows or any other areas where it can be affected by glare.
