5 Attitude of Gratitude Games for Kids

Playing these five attitude of gratitude games with our kids will help them appreciate the little things and be thankful for loved ones.

A lot is changing for kids right now. Social distancing guidelines have changed the way that children experience routines like school, socializing with friends, exercise and the world as a whole. As such, it can be hard to focus on positivity and thankfulness while everything is in flux.

This makes it a great time to teach children important values and life lessons that will help them cultivate an overall more positive mindset. Teaching kids to practice an attitude of gratitude will not only help them get through this tumultuous time. As they grow older, these games will help our kids acknowledge the good parts of their daily lives.

Practicing gratitude can help kids learn to enjoy the good times, reflect on happy memories and appreciate their loved ones. We’ve compiled several gratitude activities that can help kids sharpen this essential skill.

1. Attitude of Gratitude Yoga

Yoga is a good physical activity for kids because it combines physical activity with meditation and reflection. Teach kids several basic yoga poses and have them reflect on their bodies and minds while practicing. You can even use this printable poster to guide your child through the flow.

2. Thankfulness Rocks

Thankfulness rocks are a unique and fun way to let your kid flex their creative muscles while practicing an attitude of gratitude. All you need are some craft paints and rocks from outside, preferably with a flat edge for painting. Have your kids decorate the rocks with bright colors and patterns, then paint or write onto each rock something they are thankful for.

3. Attitude of Gratitude Tree

A gratitude tree is a fun Thanksgiving decoration, but can also work year-round. Print out a tree or make your own, then use green, orange, red and yellow paper to make leaves. Have your child write things they are thankful for on each leaf and attach them to the tree, to serve as a physical reminder of the good things in life.

4. Attitude of Gratitude Journal

Journaling has been scientifically proven to help regulate emotions and inspire thoughtfulness. An attitude of gratitude journal can also serve this purpose! Give your child a journal that they can use to write lists and thoughts about things in their life that make them happy, so they can reference it later and remain thoughtful about positive things in their day-to-day.

5. Thank You Notes

Writing thank you notes can make the sender and recipient feel good, so it’s a win-win! Print out thank you note prompts or use your own. Have your kids fill them out for friends, family, teachers or whoever else can use a pick-me-up. These notes will help your child appreciate the special people in their life while also making others feel happy.
