It is so important to read books with your kids, even to babies! You might think they are too young to understand, but babies that hear more words in their infancy have a better vocabulary as a toddler and preschooler. It is also a great way to cuddle and bond and by adding a books into your routine your baby will learn that reading is special and something to look forward to. Read these tips for reading to your kids. Reading to babies can be tricky sometimes. You might find they are too wiggly and don’t want to sit for a book or they just want to grab the book out of your hands and eat it! I have found that it has been easier to read to my babies right after they have a full tummy and are tired, so right before nap time and bedtime. The more you read to them the more they will love it and hopefully will start bringing you books any time of the day to read.
There are so many books you can read to babies (check out our 50 favorite picture books here), but board books are nice because they are usually condensed and just the right length for their short attention spans. The pages are also fat and easier for them to turn. They also double as a nice chew toy. 😉 Board books aren’t just for babies either, Sandra Boynton books are still my Kindergarteners favorite books and my three year old still reads all of her board books too.
I love you through and through

Little Blue Truck is my son and daughter’s favorite!
Yes Little Blue Truck is so sweet. We also enjoy It’s Pajama Time.
You have SO many of our favorites in this list, like Dear Zoo, The Going to Bed Book, and Mr. Brown Can Moo. I love that board books are often MUCH shorter – better for my end-of-the-day attention span, too.
Not a well-known book, but I love “The Big Book of Exclamations” for “words” like uh-oh, oops, wow, ouch, whee, etc.
