St. Patrick’s Day DIY Bow (Something Green)

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a great Tuesday! Yesterday I went to the store today in search for something to decorate my home with for St. Patrick’s Day. I usually wait until after the holiday to buy something on clearance, but with a sick one at home it gave me a good excuse to get out and enjoy a little Home Goods therapy.  I was able to find a few cute things (a green table runner on clearance for $4, not in the holiday section), a small St. Patrick’s day sign, and a couple small dishes to mix with my green decor to pull off in the Spring.

St. Patrick’s Day can be a little tricky when it comes to decor…there isn’t a lot to choose from! I also found the same to be true for clothing/accessories. I am not one to buy an outfit just for a holiday but I thought it would be fun to make a bow for Jayne that I could use for the holiday and one that could be used afterwards.

Our theme this week is something green…so I decided to pull out some (green) fabrics from my scrap stash (recycle) and created a little something to share with ya! Keep in mind that one of the best ways to create is not always to have a specific plan. Your fabrics will be different, your flowers may be different, but this is an easy, quick bow that you could put your own spin on.

Random Scraps

Start with a strip of ripped fabric. Mine is about an inch wide by 4 inches long

Twist and roll the fabric around the knot and use a hot glue gun to hide little drops of glue as you roll to keep it in place.

Sorry about the lighting! But remember to tuck the end underneath the rosette so you have a finished edge.

For the next flower I simply made a paper pattern to cut out and trace the fabric. I made them each a little bit smaller than each other.

Start by folding the flower in half and with your sewing machine make a tiny “pie”. Sew from the outside to the middle and do 4-6 stitches around the flower. I left the bottom layer flat and sewed the top two.

Add a lace bow

And a little ribbon (add a dab of hot glue to keep it in place)

Cut a piece of felt to use as the backbone for the bow and to glue your alligator clip to. You can also choose to glue it to a skinny headband if you prefer. I like to use a clip and attach it to a headband so I can use it both ways. 🙂

And you’re done!
