I am so excited to finally be sharing the transition of my office into a family office and guest bedroom space. I have had a vision in my mind of what I wanted this room to look like, but it took a lot of planning and patience to make the space that I wanted to spend a lot of time in with my family. Let me start by introducing you to my office!
Problem 1.
The lonely piano:
Okay, I LOVE having a piano in my house and I didn’t want to have to get rid of it, but because it was taking up a whole wall in our office it limited the room where I could come and sit down with my children to help them with their homework or have a place to be with my husband while he is on the computer.
Problem 2.
Clutter around the computer. This small desk was one that I received while working for Bank of America from home and I bought it to fit in a corner at the bottom of the house. It wasn’t meant to be a main desk or one that was seen often. Our office is right off the front entryway of our home and I HATED that people could see all of the JUNK! The mail, the printer, the computer, the shredder, and the 1990 file cabinet. ugh.
Problem 3.
The junky bookshelf. I love books and want to incorporate them into every room of my house, but I did not love that it was such a crowded space that always looked messy. It also limited the amount of storage space where we could store bills, craft supplies, homework supplies, or family pictures.
Problem 4.
I want a GUEST ROOM. So, I do not have guests often, but, this room does have a door and a bathroom close by that could easily transform into a temporary bedroom. Who is the KING of creating MULT-PURPOSED rooms??? IKEA! I approached them with my idea of creating a family office/Guest bedroom and they LOVED the idea! I can’t WAIT to show you what it looks like now!
Now I realize these are all first-world problems. I am super lucky to even have a home office to call my own, the thing that bothered me the most about this room was that we weren’t using it as a family at all and I saw that as a huge waste of shared space. So there you have it! Check in tomorrow to see the AFTER! I think you might love it.
