“The only thing that is constant is change.” Heraclitus
I just finished reading an old journal of mine. It was so interesting reading my own words, from so long ago. It sounded like me, but a much younger version. I wanted to reach through the pages and shake myself. I wanted to scream so loud that it would echo into the past. Would my life have been better if I would have had some warnings about problems I would run into?
Maybe not. People like to choose for themselves, and really the only thing that can convince a person of something, is to experience and choose it for themselves. I guess this is why we don’t get direct answers when we pray, most of the time. Our life is ours for the choosing – and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. I believe prayer gives us direction, don’t get me wrong…. but I think that it is our decision, in the end.
“Never assume that you’re stuck with the way things are. Life changes, and so can you.” Ralph Marston
I think it’s pretty common to feel stuck, like we are under the control of other people, experiences or history. We feel like our opinions or feelings don’t matter, or without realizing it – we begin to live as others would want or expect us to. I believe that all of the answers we need for life, live within us. We just have to be strong and patient enough to ask and listen. We need to trust ourselves. In the end, it is our journey. We need to be happy with how we decide to live, and we can’t do that if we are always living the way we think others want us to.
Change is good. It’s okay to learn from the past and adjust our coordinates as we fly forward. This doesn’t make you wishy washy or a flake – it makes you agile and strong.
