I am excited to share with you this easy tutorial on how to style your hair into a side french braid! This hairstyle is a nice way to mix up a routine and add a little whimsy to your look. I love braids for the Summer and this is also a great way to keep your hair out of your face. This is also a hairstyle that I love to wear while boating or heading to the beach because even if my hair gets wet it still looks “done” when it dries again. Keep in mind this is also a great hairstyle if you want to have your bangs out of your face for the day or you are growing them out.
Braids are so “in” right now and if you have never french braided your hair it can take a little practice to get it just how you like, but once you do, you wont forget how! I find that a regular french braid is a little bit easier to do than a “dutch” french braid, it is the same finger holds, you just need to remember to add the new hair and wrap it under the braid rather than over. If you are having any trouble knowing what to do with a french braid you can watch a video on YouTube for extra help. I will do my best to show you with my pictures though!
The steps are easy, and before I began I started by washing and drying my hair.
First to start with the products I used: I teamed up with Suave Professionals and their new Sea Mineral Infusion line because I wanted to show you an easy hairstyle and one that would stay in place all day long. I love the scent of this hair care line as it is not too flowery or coconut smelling, and it really adds a boost to the body of your hair as well.
I started with washing my hair with Suave Professionals® Sea Mineral Infusion Moisturizing Buoyant Body Shampoo and Conditioner. I was very happy with the scent as it was very fresh and not to coconut-y smelling. It also wasn’t an overly flowery smell either, so it will easily be one my husband likes it too!
Once towel dried I applied Suave Professionals® Sea Mineral Infusion Texturizing Sea Salt Spray to add some texture and grab to my hair as I dried/styled it. This spray with add texture and bounce to your hair that will help your style stay in place all day. You can use the comb to create volume at the crown of your head one your are done drying.
You will also need:
1 and 1/4 curling iron~ Hot tools is one of my favorite, but I am using Conair here
Comb
Brush
Small, clear elastic
Use the comb to make a part in your hair, when I do the side braid I like to part mine to the side and use the thicker side of my hair to create a fuller braid. You can achieve a salon look in just three easy steps and I will show you how.
Step 1:
Select the amount of hair you want to create your side braid and divide it into three equal parts. I wanted this braid to stand out a little more so you could see the steps. You can make a smaller braid if you want it to be more delicate and understated as well.
Step 2
Remember to gather pieces of hair from the top and bottom of your hair as you braid down through the braid. If you are doing a dutch braid you will add the pieces of hair to your current strand and then wrap the hair under the braid rather than over the braid to make the braid pop a little more.
Here is a picture of taking the piece of hair and wrapping it UNDER the braid.
Step 3
Once you have secured your hair with an elastic pull the pieces of the braid apart width wise to give your braid a fuller look. You are welcome to pin the hair underneath with a bobby pin to hide the end of the braid and the elastic or just let it hang free. You are DONE! Easy as pie.
