1. Keep a Journal

2. Learning to Cook
Eating well is an important part of physical health, which is necessary for emotional and psychological health. Instead of eating out or eating processed meals, consider learning how to cook healthy meals at home. This will help you to save on the waistline as well as the wallet. 3. Send Thank You Notes

As you express gratitude more regularly, you will come to be more aware of the good in your life. 4. Spend Time Alone
In this busy, fast paced world we live in, it is easy to get caught up in our routines and running from one task or event to the next. Often our responsibilities have more to do with others’ needs than our own. Optimal overall wellness includes looking out for number one every now and then. Spend at least 15 minutes per day alone and do something just for you. Does this include a bath? Reading a book? Simply sitting and meditating? Whatever it is, look for ways to take care of yourself and focus solely on you for a few minutes each day.
5. Go Outside
Your mother was right, the fresh air is good for you! Being outdoors can trigger the release of chemicals in our bodies that lead to feelings of pleasure and euphoria. Especially as there is decent weather in most parts of the country this time of year, take advantage and go for a walk, a bike ride, sit in a swing, or catch up on your yard work. You will feel better and become more connected with nature.
6. Unplug Before Bed
Many of us have the unhealthy habit of checking social media right before bed and then again first thing when we wake up. It has been shown that using technology before bedtime can actually be detrimental to the quality of sleep that we achieve. Make it a point to put phones and computers away from the bed and do something non-technology related to wind down for the night. This is a great time to work on the journal writing mentioned earlier, catch up on your reading, or simply have a good conversation.
7. Learn to Let Go
Whether this applies to the sentimental, raggedy keepsakes you are hoarding, people in your life who bring you down, or guilt that keeps you from progressing, letting go is good for the soul. Evaluate the things in your life that bring you stress and unhappiness and find ways to let them go. Sometimes you will not be able to completely remove something from your life (maybe you have an in law that is difficult to handle) but you can learn new ways to handle these situations and release them of their control on your well-being.
It takes 30 days to establish a habit, so pick of one or two habits to put into place at a time. Slowly, but surely you will see an increased level of health and well-being that will transcend into multiple aspects of your life.
