a REAL Wen Product Review; Does Wen really work??

Are you like me?  I’ve been eyeballing Wen products forever!  Chaz Dean, really?  If you’re not already familiar, here is a little bit about what their “cure-all” cleansing conditioner (no more shampoo) claims to do:

“CLEANSING CONDITIONER

If you’ve oggled the infomercial like I do every time it’s on, you’ve seen all of their claims to make hair stronger, fuller, softer etc.   BUT every time I try to pull up a review of their product from my blogging friends and basically REAL people, they’re all paid or sponsored or given something for free….which makes me automatically skeptical.  So, I finally purchased it myself and am putting it to the test!

I received my order QUICK!  I assumed it would be at least a week, but I got mine in just two days.  I did upgrade to the speedy shipping, so from 3 weeks to 7-10 days and it cost $5.99.

I quickly took it all out and got ready for day 1.

What you need to know about my hair in particular is this:

A) The ends are dry and damaged. It’s over processed, and under loved. 🙂

B) It’s wavy naturally

C) It’s super thin.

D) It gets super greasy in a matter of hours without the right products.

My concerns going into this are that my hair will get greasier quicker and that I’ll lose any volume that I do have, thanks to the damage. HA! (Isn’t that an oxymoron?? I want healthier hair, but I love the volume I get right after I get my hair done!)

So on to my first test:

First, I jumped in the shower and washed and conditioned with my usual products.  Then I blow dried my hair, with attachment and my usual round brush, and I didn’t use any other product.  I wanted to see exactly what we were working with to start out.

This is what I got: My usual flat, dry frizzy hair, which I typically just curl and often put in clip in extensions to hide all the damage.

So then, I went on to re-wash…or I guess I should say, condition my hair with the Wen Cleansing Conditioner.

It’s weird to not have a lather!  The smell is pleasant, which I’m always partial to things that smell nice. 🙂

I then followed up with the exact routine I did before; blow drying my hair with my attachment, round brush and no other products.   At first, I sort of felt like the broken ends were tucking in better rather than sticking out despite my best round brushing skills…but I wasn’t sure I noticed a huge difference right away.  I didn’t feel like I had more body at all, but it was very soft…however, having fine hair, my hair is usually pretty soft anyway without product in it. So, there’s that.

I wish I would have used the green wall in my before shot, because it provided a much better contrast.  Then you could see all the strands that stick out in every direction.

It wasn’t until I put them side by side that I realized there really was a difference!

My hair is still not bursting with volume…but this was just day one.  We’ll see what happens when and if my hair really does get healthier and stronger.  At the end of day one, my hair was already looking mildy greasy, but that’s normal for me if I don’t have any mouse or root booster in my hair.  Needless to say, I couldn’t go to day 2 in the least as my hair was completely gross by morning!

So day two, I used the Wen cleansing conditioner, added their ultra nourishing boost on the second application and then applied the anti-friz styling creme and replenishing mist, as they suggest.  BUT then I added my personal favorite root boost (Big Sexy Hair).  I threw in some curls at the bottom for good measure and here’s how it looks. (no extensions and no teasing my hair)

So far, I generally like it.  Do I believe all the hype? Not yet.  Would I keep paying $30 a month for it…I don’t know, we’ll see.   I’m a total cheapskate, but I really want to start taking better care of my hair…(next I’ll work on my skin).  I’ll post updates on my review over the next few weeks.

For now, I’m hopeful!!

Have you tried Wen? What was your experience?  Love it? Hate it? Recommend it?  Worth it?

Where’s the update? I was really looking forward to seeing the update. I’m reading this is 2014 and unless I’m not seeing it in the original blog, I have no idea how to find it. I tried searching, but only got this one and something that had nothing to do with WEN (Mrs. Sanchez…. was the other result). I really want to see an update.ReplyCancel

I have used wen for many years and love it.  Sometimes I stop for a few months to try other new products (that’s just me) but I always go back to wen.ReplyCancel
