It is hard to believe it has been almost six months since having my fourth baby. Now that I am getting somewhat regular hours of sleep I am feeling more ready to work out, treat my skin, eat healthy, and get back to feeling “me” again. Typically this can take me up to a year, but I am sharing with you five tips on how you can treat your skin post baby. With winter around the corner this is more important than ever as the air gets SO DRY and makes my skin itchy and uncomfortable.
- Treat your skin before baby comes
The best tip for treating your skin post baby is to treat your skin pre-baby. Unfortunately I learned this the hard way the first time around. I had pre-eclampsia with my first baby and got stretch marks in places that I didn’t even know it was possible. I am talking behind my knees, under my arm pits, and on my inner thighs. Of course I also got them on my belly, breasts, and hips. I swelled so much, so quickly that my body couldn’t keep up. I wish I would have been moisturizing a lot more to accommodate the drastic changes that were happening to my body.
2. Take climate into account (Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize) Do you live in a dry climate? I sure do! Take time to let your body recover from the dry air by moisturizing once or twice daily. Your skin needs the moisture to recover from the dry air and a layer of protection that moisturizing can provide. Already I can tell that after using AmLactin for two weeks my skin is feeling softer, silkier, and much more flexible. I love using AmLactin Alpha-Hydroxy Therapy Ultra Hydrating Body Cream for the extreme dry places like elbows, knees, hands, and legs. You could also use this cream to treat stretch marks on your trouble spots as well. 3. Take time for your feet You may not have had the ability to take very good care of your feet while you were pregnant because it is really hard to reach them for a good portion of the time. Recover from that dry damage by putting foot cream on your feet at night and then wearing socks to bed to lock in the moisture. I love the AmLactin Alpha-Hydroxy Therapy Foot Cream, it is thick and creamy and heals the skin so well. **Bonus mom tip. Somehow I have convinced my son to rub my feet at night while I read to him. He gets to stay up a little later, we get his assigned reading done and my feet are looking much better. He likes to marvel at how scratchy and rough my feet are and then how he can make them smoother by rubbing the lotion on. Total win-win in my book! 🙂
4. Treat the bumpy areas Have you ever heard of Keratosis Pilaris? It is actually a skin disease that you are born with. No fear, it is harmless, but it is essentially skin acne that appears as small, tiny bumps on the back of your arms, buttocks, legs, or face. The most common area is the back of the arms. I don’t know why, but for some reason this flares up for me after having a baby. There is no way to get rid of it completely but there are products that can help you treat the symptoms. AmLactin® Cerapeutic®Restoring Body Lotion is unique as it can instantly transform your skin with this unique moisturizer. It’s the only formula to combine clinically proven, patented ULTRAPLEX® and three essential ceramides to relieve extreme dryness for 24 hours. Uncover visibly soft, silky, youthful-looking skin.
5. Exfoliate once a week It is a good idea to exfoliate in the shower/tub once weekly to remove dead skin cells and rejuvenate your skin. Did you know you can also moisturize and exfoliate at the same time? I didn’t know about alpha-hydroxy therapy until earlier this year. AmLactin Moisturizing Body Lotion has a special formula with clinically proven 12% lactic acid that’s pH balanced for the skin. AmLactin is the #1 moisturizer brand recommended by dermatologists for rough, dry skin. If your skin looks dull and feels rough, use a moisturizer with alpha-hydroxy therapy, like AmLactin Moisturizing Body Lotion, which exfoliates to promote natural cell renewal, leaving you with healthy-looking skin that begs for short sleeves and higher hemlines. Uncover smooth, radiant skin with AmLactin Alpha-Hydroxy Skin Care. Its unique exfoliating and hydrating alpha-hydroxy therapy gently removes dead skin cells to reveal soft, hydrated skin. It’s the difference between skin care and skin therapy. AmLactin moisturizers are available on Amazon.com and at your local Target, CVS, Walgreens, Costco, Walmart and Rite Aid. I hope you’re enjoying this cooler weather and enjoying time with family and friends in your beautiful new skin! Remember that taking time for yourself is not selfish! Taking care of you allows you to have something to be able to give everyone else. We all know that the demands of motherhood are high, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take a time out to help you feel like yourself, the beautiful person you are!
