When we moved to Alaska we knew there would be a lot of moose here, but it is still so fun when you spot one. When we go on road trips it can get a little exhausting because we have to have our eyes constantly peeled for moose, they are fun to look at, but you don’t want to hit one!
I heard that around Halloween moose will eat Jack-o-lanterns off your porch. That idea made me so excited that I think it was the only reason we carved pumpkins this year! I was so bummed when we didn’t lure a moose all of October, but one night a few weeks after Halloween (yes, our pumpkins were still out on the porch…it was so cold I never wanted to go out and remove them! haha) we had a moose visit us in the night. I didn’t see it, which I was sad about, but I could see the tracks in the snow in our yard. I followed the tracks to our front porch and sure enough the moose tried to eat the pumpkins, but the pumpkins were frozen solid so the moose couldn’t bite them! There were teeth marks all over them and they were pushed all over the porch, but the moose gave up. I think we might start carving pumpkins in the summer and see what happens. 😉
Here are some of my videos of moose that we’ve spotted since we moved here. We’ve seen a lot more, but these are the moose we could actually get videos of.
We love moose around here, so I rounded up some of my favorite moose picture books for kids. These are fun if you’re learning the letter M or just because moose are pretty awesome. Click on the photo or the link above the photo to check the books out. Enjoy!
