Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes

Not all mashed potatoes are created equal...we're going to share our secret to amazing instant pot mashed potatoes!  The best part - they take less than 10 minutes to cook!

  • 6 russet potatoes, peeled
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup hot milk
  • 3/4 cup butter (1 1/2 sticks - softened to room temp)
  • 1 tsp salt (or more to taste)
  • garnish with freshly chopped chives (optional)


  • add 1 cup of water to instant pot and place cooking rack inside so that rack is just above the water
  • cut the peeled potatoes into quarters and place on the rack
  • cook on high pressure for 8 minutes in instant pot, then use quick release for pressure
  • drain your instant pot and move potatoes into mixing bowl
  • mix on low to medium with your whisk attachment or by hand and slowly drizzle in hot milk (the hot milk absorbs better into the starchy potatoes)
  • slowly add softened butter while whisking - about a half stick at a time
  • add salt and chopped chives, stir and serve
