St. Louis Style Greens

  • 3 bunches collard
  • 3 bunches mustard
  • 3 bunches turnip
  • 3 bunches should equal about a grocery sack full - these can also be substituted for other greens such as spinach
  • red pepper flakes
  • 4 T vegetable oil
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • garlic salt
  • black pepper.


  • Wash, remove all stems, wash again.
  • In a large pot fill with an inch of water, add red pepper flakes, 4 T vegetable oil, 1/4 C sugar, garlic salt, black pepper. Bring to boil, lower heat. Add all the greens, yes those three bags. Boil till cooked. (check after 20 mins) Taste & re-season.
