Harry Potter party Ideas
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” – Albus Dumbledore
My family loves Harry Potter and we have shared lots of Harry Potter posts over the years. Harry Potter is the perfect theme for a birthday or for when you just want to throw a party!
Doing a Harry Potter party is no small feat. Everything about Harry Potter is detailed, magical, and thorough. Morgan Heywood from Lets Talk Eventz is sharing her Harry Potter party ideas with us to make it a celebration everyone will be talking about for years.
The Set Up
Harry Potter colors is a must for this party. That maroon Gryffindor color makes the perfect tablecloth.
Get a long table to display the cake and treats for the party.
The Flags are sold individually on Amazon. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
Pro tip: Set up everything that you have to make sure it looks okay. It will make it easier to visualize what more you need or what doesn’t look quite right.
Floating Candles
Tie some flameless candlesticks with fishing line and tape it to the ceiling to make the candles appear like they are floating.
Hedwig for Decor
With purchasing Harry Potter items, less expensive will usually give you poor quality. It is worth the money to buy the official Harry Potter Hedwig to get the size right and it will actually look like him!
Luggage and Packages
When you think of what Harry Potter’s luggage looks like, you can picture the old, slightly battered, hard shell luggage that he uses every school year at Hogwarts. Try an antique shop to get that perfect piece to make it look authentic.
You may not believe it, but twine makes a difference! Wrap twine around brown wrapped packages for those Harry Potter looking presents.
7 Hidden Horcruxes
For a fun and challenging party game, see if your guests can find all 7 Horcruxes hidden throughout your display.
See if you can spot them yourself, here’s the list to help:
- Tom Riddle’s diary.
- Marvolo Gaunt’s ring.
- Salazar Slytherin’s locket.
- Helga Hufflepuff’s cup.
- Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem.
- Nagini, the snake.
- Harry Potter himself.
Harry Potter Sugar Cookies
These custom Harry Potter royal icing sugar cookies made by @my.two.cookies are the perfect treat! Her sugar cookies are exquisite and the detail is phenomenal!
Golden Snitches
Make some golden snitches using Lindor white chocolate truffles because they have that gold wrapper.
Harry Potter Unicorn Cake
The Harry Potter Unicorn cake is made with a butterbeer cake recipe from @cakebycourtney’s.
Get a clay set of unicorn horn and ears from Amazon and hand paint them brown.
Hand pipe the eyes and mane (this part takes a while with all of that detail!)
Jars of Candy
Fill some apothecary jars full of candy and make Harry Potter themed labels.
- Licorice wands: Red vines licorice
- Gillywood: Gummy worms
- Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans: Delicious “normal” jelly beans mixed with crazy, creepy flavors.
How To Find Harry Potter Font
You can download the Harry Potter font for free. Just go to www.dafont.com and search for Harry P. I used this font for my labels on the apothecary jars full of candy.
Harry Potter Party Favor Idea
- Go to Bath and Body Works and get the small hand sanitizers with black lids so they will look uniform.
- Customize your own labels to make them Harry Potter themed.
- Arrange them on a shiny tray or mirror so guests can take one on their way home.
