These look to be the REAL DEAL snickerdoodles I grew up with!!!…Question…no shortening in France!…Could I possibly use “saindoux”…which is white, purified lard sold in butter-shaped rectangular packages as a worthy substitute?…Any advice would be much appreciated…by the entire family!

  Hey Donna, Thank you so much for stopping by and for your comments! I’m glad you tried out these snickerdoodles and that you loved them! They are our favorite cookie! If your cookies are turning out a little flat it might be that your cream of tartar or baking soda isn’t fresh or that your eggs are too big. I use large eggs for this recipe, but if your eggs are a extra large you would need to pour out a little bit of the egg white to get the cookie puffy.
  
  I’m curious what you ended up using for the shortening substitute. I wasn’t sure so I searched the internet and found this website that can give you a little more info. http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/substitutes-for-shortening.html It sounds like a lot of people had success substituting butter for shortening.

JUST made these….they really ARE the “real-deal” Snickerdoodles of my youth!!…BUT..BUT…they are not quite as “high” as yours…..do I need to position them in the oven a bit differently (mine is quite small….kind of a “mini” oven version of the larger oven just above it…or perhaps my cream of tartar was not as fresh and giving of the “tallness/puff” factor that yours so obviously display?…The taste is out of this world…texture…top! Thank you for sharing this winning recipe. My family is in love with it…so I wish to look no further for our “house” Snickerdoodle!ReplyCancel
