Lump of Coal play dough

Are you in need of a creative and fun stocking stuffer idea, well look no further! My friend, Stephanie, has a really cute idea to share today.

I was thinking of unique and inexpensive party favors for my kids’ train party when I came up with the idea for coal play dough.  It also translates to Christmas really well.
My beautiful neighbor, Christina, created the best play dough recipe, and she gave me permission to share it.
In a deep saucepan mix:
2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tarter
Add:
2 cups water
2 Tbsp oil
Add glitter and black food coloring until dark grey or black if you are doing coal.
Whisk until smooth (little lumps in the batter will turn into weird lumps in the play dough)
Cook over medium-low hear until play dough is nearly set (i.e. no liquid is sloshing around in you pot because the mixture is beginning to hold itself together).  Don’t let the bottom scorch.
Add:
2 Tbsp imitation vanilla extract
Stir until vanilla is blended.
The vanilla improves the texture and smell so good.  It gives the coal a nice warm scent.  A few drops of peppermint essential oil can give it a Christmas smell as well.
