8 tips for Healthier Hair this Winter

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Holmes Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

Beautiful woman with blond healthy hair - beauty salon background You may remember a while back I wrote a post on how to help a dry nose during the winter season? Well, I wanted to follow up with how to keep your hair from drying out in the winter season as well because that it something I really struggle with. I have a lot of fine hair. It is great hair, but it tangles VERY easily and I struggle a lot with this especially during the winter.

There are a few ways that I have found have helped my hair and I am excited to share those with you today.

1. Avoid hot water in the shower.

Okay, this one is kind of hard for me, but did you know that when you use hot water in the shower it can actually damage your hair? There is nothing that I love more than escaping the day for 15 minutes to indulge in a hot shower and immerse my head. It is the closest thing I get most days to a spa get-away. If you must use hot water to keep your sanity, which I do sometimes, try letting your conditioner set while you do your shower routine and then rinse your conditioner out with cooler water before finishing off with a hot shower blast every where else. This will help smooth out your hair and make it seal together.

2. Air dry as often as you can or skip washing your hair every day

It is best for your hair if you actually don’t wash it every single day and when you get the opportunity to let it air dry, take it! I even have friends who prefer to take showers at night so that they can let their hair dry over night. This isn’t always doable, so just take care not to damage it every day with washing and drying.

3. Get a brush that won’t damage your hair

Recently I went to a new hairdresser who introduced me to this hairbrush. She has 5 daughters and told me that she has a hard time finding it because it is everyone’s favorite brush. Now I know why. You can pick this up any where and maybe you are already using this, but here it is in case you aren’t. My hair is a lot like a child’s hair that tangles easily, so if you have daughters, I think they will love this as well.

4. Use Moroccan Oil and Quality Shampoo and Conditioner

This product has saved my life. Just a couple sprays to re-hydrate the hair after a blow out makes a huge difference. You can also put in on before bedtime to give your locks a little extra boost.

I couldn’t believe the difference it made when I finally bought shampoo and conditioner that really moisturized my hair. Pureology is for sure my favorite and has made my hair so much healthier and easier to take care of, especially in the winter months.

5. Take your Vitamins

Replenishing your body with the vitamins it needs through foods you eat is always the best way, but sometimes we need a little extra help! I have found the pre-natal vitamins are especially good for keeping my hair feeling smooth and strong.

6. Cover up wet hair

If you are heading outdoors with wet hair, make sure to protect it. The cold air can actually damage your hair and especially vulnerable when wet. Find a cute scarf or hat to do the job.

7. Stay hydrated

Although there isn’t scientific research proving that this will change your hair, staying hydrated will always be good for your health overall. Water will always help your body function better.

8. Use a Humidifier

Just like your hair needs moisture from the inside, it definitely benefits from moisture on the outside. Utah air gets brutally dry and a humidifier will change the air and in turn change your hair for the better. I have a WeMo Smart humidifier and I love that I can set it with my phone and forget about it. Providing moisture to your whole house it is an easy way to keep your skin and hair healthier, especially through the winter months.
