St. Patrick’s Day fun

Have any of you discovered the Harlem Shake meme? It’s a 30 second video that begins with one person (usually wearing a mask or helmet) dancing to the song, “Harlem Shake” by Baauer. The first person dances to the song alone for 15 seconds, surrounded by people not paying attention. When the bass drops the video switches to the entire crowd doing crazy random dancing and wearing costumes and holding silly props. The first Harlem Shake video was added to You Tube at the end of January and on February 10 the upload rate of the Harlem Shake video reached 4000 per day!

So naturally we felt like we needed to jump on the bandwagon. My husband is a dentist and yesterday we made a Harlem Shake video with his office. Whether you love it, hate it, or just plain don’t get it, it was still so much fun to make.

So you’re probably wondering what the Harlem Shake has to do with “St. Patrick’s Day Fun.”  Welllll, my husband and I were married on St. Patrick’s Day seven years ago, and since I’m posting about fun activities to do on that holiday I thought I’d also share a reason why I love my husband and love being married to him. He isn’t afraid to wear a crocodile head and dance around in a dental operatory. He’s a fun guy to be married to.

It’s great having an anniversary on St. Patrick’s Day, wherever we go there is always a party. We don’t drink, so I don’t know why we care about that, but it is still fun. We like to imagine they are celebrating our union. It’s also great because every picture we have together we are wearing green.

Since St. Patty’s Day is coming up in less than a month I thought I would share a few fun things we did last year.

A sneaky funny leprechaun visited our house during the night and made a treasure hunt for my boys. He made a trail with gold coins (circles punched out of yellow construction paper) and as the boys followed the coins they discovered funny mischief that the leprechaun made. I didn’t get the greatest pictures last year, but you’ll get the idea.

The coins eventually led them to the laundry room where the treasure was hidden in the dryer.

They thought it was so funny and awesome!

The leprechaun left them green treats and gold coins.

I have an awesome circle punch so this didn’t take that long to prepare and I saved them to do the same thing this year. I think my boys thought the mischief was way funnier though, so you could easily do something like this without the gold coins.

For breakfast we had Lucky Charms and rainbow fruit.

For lunch I made a leprechaun out of a sandwich, carrots, raisins, and a granny smith apple. As a redhead, I hated being called “carrot top” growing up, so this lunch was a difficult one to present to my kids, but I sucked it up. My boys loved the bell pepper cut to look like a shamrock so much that they had already eaten most of them by the time I got a picture. They did have 3-4 on their plate. The rainbow marshmallows were a fun treat for them.
