My Favorite Skin Care For Kids Routine

Taking care of a family of six comes with a ton of responsibility. Of course, each mother knows there are some tasks that become a bit mundane while others can be very important even though they are ordinary. Taking care of your skin is an essential part of caring for children as it is their largest organ! Here is my favorite skin care for kids.

I have to start this post with a little bit of humor because recently my son Jett gave us a Sunday to remember. It was a special Sunday in which the children were performing for the entire hour. Each was given a special speaking part and asked to share their thoughts on loving one another or sharing a scripture. My three year old Jett must have forgotten what he was supposed to say, (I didnโ€™t even KNOW he had a speaking part),but he confidently marched up to the pulpit and said, โ€œMy family likes taking family baths.โ€

He then continued on into something else the coordinator stopped him and left the audience chuckling. We received comments all day long about how it was the highlight of the program and they were glad our family is so clean. I laughed of course and said, โ€œI am glad we are known as a clean family rather than a stinky one!โ€ No, we do not take โ€œfamily bathsโ€ but maintaining proper hygiene and taking care of our little ones is a major priority for us.

One misconception with small children is they must be bathed every single day. According to The American Academy of Dermatology it is only necessary for children to be bathed 1-2 times per week for children ages 6-12. Even babies donโ€™t need a bath every day, although I find they NEED a bath due to getting messy for one reason or another. Too much bathing can dry out the skin, especially if you live in a dry climate or your child suffers from eczema. I do think that a bath time routine can be really helpful with some children to help them sleep at night. If this is the case for you and your family make sure that you are choosing bathing products that are gentle and pure as to not aggravate the skin.

I like to use cleaners and soaps that are gentle and healing for the skin. I really love the pure formula of Ivory. ย Ivory has created soap that is 99.44 percent pure for over 138 years and is dedicated to providing products with thoughtful ingredients that families trust.

I love Ivoryโ€™s free and gentle formula that has been trusted for generations. Itโ€™s even known as โ€œThe Original Gentle Family Brand.โ€ has darling, new packaging, and remains the family trusted brand we all know and love. The products I tested include Ivory Original 3-bar, Ivory Original Body Wash and Ivory Free & Gentle Body Wash with Pear & Sandalwood.

I loved the Ivory Free & Gentle Body Wash with Pear & Sandalwood, it contains the #1 Dermatologist-Recommended moisturizing ingredient. It is the perfect step up from the baby scent and cleans even better. This Dermatologist Recommended product comes with an easy to access pump. It left my skin feeling so smooth and clean. The scent is definitely gender neutral and can be used by the whole family.

Make sunscreen a priority.

From an early age it is so important that sun-screen in made a priority and part of your everyday routine. Iโ€™ll admit, I am not the best at doing this every single day, but I have found if I keep a small rollable stick of sunscreen in my purse I am much better at putting sunscreen on the entire family when we are spending a day in the sun. Wintertime can be deceiving because you may not think to pack the sunscreen along, but it is just as important to apply it on wintery days as it is in the summer-time. I have had some of my worst sunburns getting a high powered reflection of the sun off of the snow when hitting the slopes.

Ages 2-5

This age is the perfect time to lay down the foundation of hygiene basics. Washing hands, brushing teeth, and learning to wash and lather for appropriate amounts of time. A fun way to help little ones understand the concept of time when washing hands or brushing teeth is to sing or hum a basic nursery rhyme like the ABCโ€™s or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. As your child is getting closer to 4 or 5 you can teach the basics of washing the face. Starting out with water only may be a good idea as you donโ€™t want to ruin the experience by getting soap in his or her eyes! Make this a fun part of bath time and use gentle soaps that will not irritate the skin.

Ages 6-9

This is the age where habits are starting to be developed, it is also a great time to teach your child how to wash his/her face properly with gentle cleansers. Also teach your child the areas to soap up and get clean. I love the Ivory Original Body Wash because it allows my children to get really clean with pure ingredients. This is important for childrenโ€™s skin as it tends to be a lot more sensitive. Make sure to moisturize the skin as well to avoid dried out skin.

Ages 10-13

By this age it is best for a child to be at least showering daily. Use a moisturizing bar soap free of dyes and heavy perfumes such as Ivoryโ€™s Original 3-bar so the skin doesnโ€™t become overly dry. Children are developing and exploring new activities at this age and their skin is changing right along with them! Creating an independent schedule and ownership of their hygiene at this age will really help as they go into their teen years.

Ages 14-20

Hormones and diet play a significant role in your childโ€™s skin and at this age it applies more than ever. Keeping up with a gentle cleansing of the face night and day paired with a healthy diet can help a lot in keeping your childโ€™s skin in good shape. Water is also essential to help cleanse the body and the skin. A clarifying facial cleanser or exfoliator can help with removing excess dirt and makeup that can build up throughout the day. If you have concerns about your childโ€™s skin consult a dermatologist as this is a very basic, overall guide.

If you are looking for a soap or body wash that will work with for the whole family you will love the new scent by Ivory. The Pear & Sandalwood offers a very clean, fresh scent and leaves your skin feeling so good. Remember, your childโ€™s bathing/skin routine should be what works best for you and your family. You know your child best and what works for me may not work for you. I have a dear friend who bathes her child every single night as their nightly routine and it works really well for them. We typically bathe our kids three days a week Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays as that works best with our activities and schedules.

In conclusion, you can expect to find the same trusted ingredients Ivory has always provided to make your choice easier than ever. You can choose from the Original 3-bar, the Original Body Wash, or the Ivory Free & Gentle Body wash with Pear & Sandlewood.

The Original 3-bar is the same pure soap formula free of dyes and heavy perfumes. This is great for travel or for those who prefer bar soap to liquid. The Ivory Original Body wash has a new, gentle formula that is also free of dyes and heavy perfumes. The Ivory Free & Gentle Body Wash with Pear & Sandalwood is my favorite. You still get the same wonderful clean effect with a twist of fabulous flavor that is light and smells so good.

You can purchase the Ivory products here.
