The Helpful Elf on the Shelf Makes a Special Dinner

In many homes across America, you may see pictures of the Elf on The Shelf delivering laughter and pranks but this year, we partnered with Ace Hardware to help  #HelpfulScoutElf cook up some helpful deeds before Christmas! Our #HelpfulScoutElf dished up something special for our family, and it couldn’t have been more delicious.

Our elf has been in the family for a long time. He loves to fish in the sink, get lost in the Christmas tree, hang out in the kitchen, and plan silly surprises for the kids.
I have been wanting to do something special for Paul this year, and so I enlisted my #HelpfulScoutElf and got to work looking through the Ace Hardware gift list.  I’ll be honest, my husband isn’t always the easiest person to buy for, so this list made the process so much easier.
The number one gift Paul had been dreaming about for years is a Traeger Smoker. If there is one thing that Paul talks most passionately about, it’s sports and food. Or better yet, watching sports and eating good food. My brother has had a smoker now for three years and my husband goes on and on about how amazing it is. They use it for monthly fight nights, weekend pizza, special Sunday dinners, and even big events like a holiday dinner. In fact, Paul fell in love with the smoker when my brother brought one for our Thanksgiving dinner last month. The meat was so tender and juicy, and the smoky flavor added a new layer to everything that had us dreaming about it for weeks! This model is the Traeger Pro Series 22 Wood Pellet Grill in Bronze from Ace Hardware – and while it’s pretty enough to belong in the kitchen, we (of course) keep ours outside.

This year our family caught the flu the week of Thanksgiving. My daughter had it so bad that we had to take turns on Thanksgiving enjoying the turkey dinner and she was devastated that she missed out on the amazing food and the fun. To deliver some extra holiday cheer we enlisted our #HelpfulScoutElf to recreate the meal and surprise my daughter with a fun holiday dinner just for her!
This was the perfect opportunity to give Paul his gift a bit early this year (and test out our smoker recipes before we used it for our big Christmas dinner – win win!) Our helpful friends over at Ace even delivered the smoker to our home AND assembled it free of charge! So I could really surprise Paul when he got home. For anyone looking to give a similar surprise, Ace is offering this free assembly and delivery service on an grill over $399 for Ace Rewards customers now through 12/24. Not a member? Not a problem- it’s so easy and free to join!
Of course, once we started meal prep our #HelpfulScoutElf jumped right in to help!
The #HelpfulScoutElf even enlisted help from some of her favorite trusty kitty friends. You should have seen the look on my daughter’s face when she saw her favorite pals lined up with a cozy feast just for her.
My daughter was so excited, and I regret with all the pictures I took, I missed the opportunity to take one of her enjoying her very own turkey leg just like the ones at Disneyland using our new Traeger Smoker. My husband was like a kid in the candy store and had no qualms with the prep because he knew the payoff would be worth it.
The smoked turkey was literally the best turkey I have ever had! Now that we’ve prepared this meal on our own I know we could handle a solo holiday feast. The process of preparing the turkey took some research in the beginning but now we understand how it works and it was so much fun! Once we got the turkey in the smoker, it was easy, fun, and made Paul even happier with his new gift from Ace (and his trusty little holiday helper!) I think this will no doubt be our new tradition of kicking off the Christmas season.
The kids are already asking what the #HelpfulScoutElf is going to help make next. I’m personally hoping it’s smoked BBQ chicken pizza – and you know I will be sharing that recipe soon!
You can check out this smoker and find more awesome gift ideas on AceHardware.com, (some of my favorite picks are below!) Ace offers gifts of all prices ranging from $10 to over $100, and their free store pick up option is great for any last-minute gifts you need to grab.
After looking through all of the amazing deals, one of my favorites was a Ring V2 Wireless Video doorbell. You can program it so that you can monitor your home from your smartphone, tablet, or PC. Someone ringing the doorbell?  Talk to them through your phone without moving a muscle, that sounds like a very serious help when I am often changing, diapering, or bathing a child. Not to mention the added security of knowing who is at your door.

I also considered the amazing Yeti Tundra 35 Cooler for Paul’s fishing trips or our summer camping trips. Now that our kids are getting older camping is looking like a much more viable option and this is the mother of all coolers. Virtually indestructible and now when you spend over $200 at Ace Hardware you will receive $50 back in an Ace gift card!

If you need some extra help cooking or picking out gifts this holiday season, I encourage you to make a trip to your local Ace, or visit AceHardware.com, for any products or gifts you need.
Then, enlist your #HelpfulScoutElf at home to help you prepare for the holidays and share your photo on Facebook and/or instagram using the tag #HelpfulScoutElf & #MyMommyStyle for a chance to win a $100 Ace Hardware gift card!! Follow along with the hashtag for idea inspiration!
