5 Ways to Make Date Night a Priority

I know, it’s Christmas time and I’m over here talking about marriage. But, hear me out. Marriage is awesome and can be one of lives greatest gifts. Christmas….gifts….I promise it goes together! Today I want to share just a few tips that can help you to have the best marriage ever, like a gift that just keeps on giving!

5 Ways to Make Date Night a Priority

I see so many couples going weeks and months without a date night and it just makes me want to cry! Every couple needs to connect and spend time with each other that is away from kids, jobs, and just the stress of everyday life. Date night doesn’t have to be elaborate- but it does need to be intentional.  Here are tips to help you get that date night on the calendar.

Babysitter Problems. “I don’t have family around or it’s too expensive to pay a babysitter.”

You can try swapping with another couple. They take the kids one week, you take theirs next week. It’s a win-win! Kids get a play date with friends and parents get a night out!

Money. Date night doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Instead of going out for dinner, just head out for dessert. Or heck, get even more creative! There are so many fun and free things to see and do! Pinterest and Google will be your friends here. Pack a picnic, go for a hike, head out to see Christmas lights, and always check around for free local events.

Put it on the schedule. Take a look at your calendar and write in your date night. RIGHT NOW! We schedule the dentist, the doctor, the school play, the bake sale, the church event, so why not schedule some time for each other! Once it’s on the calendar, it’s much more likely to happen.

Make a Date Night Bucket List. Dinner and a movie can sure get boring, and you’re not even spending time communicating and connecting! Instead find ways to spice up date night. We recently made a Bucket List of things we would like to try and do. A few things on our list are: paint night, go to a salsa dance class, comedy club, moonlight chairlift ride.

Take Turns Planning. This goes along with the bucket list idea. Maybe you really want to try a couples dance class, but he would much rather watch a basketball game. This is where compromise and trying something new comes into play. The key here is to NOT COMPLAIN if it’s something you wouldn’t think you would like. Going shooting at a gun range was DEAD LAST on my list- but my husband really wanted to do it. Turns out we had a blast!

Hopefully some of these tips will help you to find the time to date your spouse. Marriage is super important and it should be full of FUN! So get out there and start dating!
