Basement Rec Room Reveal and “I lived” Wall Decor

I have been so excited to share this finished room with you! This basement rec room reveal has been a long time in the making as I was pregnant when we were finishing the basement and also finishing our backyard as well. We worked on this basement for an entire year and it was a LONG year. I loved the process of designing our own space, but it really was a labor of love. One of the best decisions we made was to have pergo flooring throughout our kitchenette/rec room space. We have a theater room in the basement and we wanted this room to be more about having play together as a family.

Here is a picture of the before:

And here is the after!

One of the things I am most excited about sharing with you is this “I lived” wall art by Just One Elle. I want this room to be a space that we come together with family and friends enjoying each other’s company, playing games, and creating memories.

I went to a One Republic concert a few years ago and listened to the band play this song as a new debut and fell in love with it instantly. It encompasses so much of what I want for my children. I want them to live a life that they can be proud of and one that is filled with experience, joy, and learning from the lessons that life with inevitably throw at them.

This sign was made for me personally by a friend of mine, , who owns her own home decor business. When I saw that she had made this sign for a friend of mine I knew it would be perfect for this space. I am seriously obsessed with it.

I still haven’t decided on what I want to do for the widow coverings as we do use this rooms for play. The kids love to zoom around with their trikes in the winter and we do allow balls and all sorts of toys. It was made to be played in. I am thinking maybe bamboo rolling shades to add some warmth and texture and forget doing drapes. I swear kids just pull them from the walls all of the time anyway. What do you think? Any chance you have an idea of where to buy some good ones online?

We are already in love with this room and have used it to host family parties, game nights, and play dates. I am so happy we did pergo flooring in the entire room, it makes the room so user friendly in so many different situations. I love this color we chose for the basement, Silver Strand by Sherwin Williams, it is a light grey with a slight green tint. It is a calm color and very neutral.

One Republic “I Lived”

Hope when you take that jump, you don’t fear the fall
Hope when the water rises, you built a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out, they’re screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay

Hope that you fall in love, and it hurts so bad
The only way you can know is give it all you have
And I hope that you don’t suffer but take the pain
Hope when the moment comes, you’ll say

I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived

Hope that you spend your days, but they all add up
And when that sun goes down, hope you raise your cup
Oh, I wish that I could witness all your joy and all your pain
But until my moment comes, I’ll say

I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived

Oh, oh, oh, oh

With every broken bone, I swear I lived
With every broken bone, I swear I

I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived1

Oh, oh, oh, oh

I swear I lived, ohhh
I swear I lived, ohhh
