My boys love Minecraft, so I knew I wanted to do a few different Minecraft things with our elf on the shelf this year. I did this one last night and my boys LOVED it! They laughed so hard. It was actually pretty easy to make too.
First, you need to make a seamless cube. I watched this YouTube video and I think he did a really good job of describing each step. I am not good at origami and my cube was not perfect, but it worked. I used an 8×8 inch square for the cube and that size was perfect.
When you’re done making your cube cut an X into one of the sides (this will be where your elf’s head fits in).
Print off a Steve face (or you could even do an Enderman or Creeper!) and tape it to the front of the cube. I found all the faces here.
When you print the face (that sounds weird…haha) you will have to go into your print settings and edit the scale. I printed mine at 25% and that made the face small enough to fit on the front of the cube.
When adding the cube to your elf’s face you will need to roll up their hat and secure it, so that the cube can actually fit on the head. I used a clear elastic and it worked great.
That’s it! If you’re kids have some Minecraft toys you can set the elf up with them. Have fun!
