15 Fun Active Date Ideas

Yesterday was my 8th wedding anniversary. Instead of the usual dinner and movie date I decided we needed to do something a little more active. We headed over to a local family fun center called Boondocks and spent the evening playing laser tag, bowling, and playing arcades. We had such a blast! It was fun to get a little competitive with each other and run around and play like we were teenagers. Don’t get me wrong, dinner and a movie is a perfectly fine date, but if you’re looking for something a little more active with great opportunities to talk and get to know your significant other a little better, look no further. I have made a list of exciting active date ideas to get you moving on your next date night.

15 Active Date Ideas

1. Laser Tag

I had to add this one first since it is what we did last night on our date. You can either play on the same team or on opposing teams, but either way laser tag is a fun adrenaline pumping game that will have you laughing and probably sweating a little too. With all the running, jumping, and crouching you will do during laser tag you will burn about 300 calories per hour! You will be having way too much fun to even notice the workout though.

2. Bowling

Challenge your date to a little competition and go bowling. Make up some embarrassing rules (like dancing when you get a strike) and have even more fun. Skip the greasy, fried foods in the bowling alley to keep it even healthier.

3. Go to an arcade

They make plenty of arcades with games for adults these days. Play ski ball, basketball, and other games of skill to get your body moving, and earn some tickets for a prize to give to your kids in the meantime.

4. Gym Class

Why not get your workout and date all in one? Have fun sweating together and help push each other for a great workout. I laugh at the thought of my husband in a Zumba or step class and think it would be a blast to go laugh at each others dance moves. You could try cycling, yoga, or even a boot camp if you’re daring.

5. Batting Cages

Batting cages have all different ball speeds, so if you’ll be able to find the right level for you. Have fun and if you don’t know how to play baseball this is the perfect time to cozy up as he can help you master your swing. Or if you are the baseball expert you can show him.

6. Hiking

Hiking might take a little more planning because it’s not really a night time activity, but if you ever go on a date during the day hiking would be perfect. Find a trail to suit your hiking ability and have fun walking together while enjoying nature’s beauty. You don’t even have to hike the entire trail, go for an hour or spend all day, it’s up to you. Don’t forget water to stay hydrated.

7. Golf

You can go enjoy the full 18 hole course or just get a bucket of balls and practice at the driving range. There are a few places around here that even offer three course practice greens. Or you can take your date and challenge them at a game of miniature golf.

8. Rock Climbing

There are a lot of indoor rock climbing facilities that are easy enough for beginners and some even offer classes. Go learn something new together and get a great workout at the same time.

9.Team Sports

Why not have a group date and call a few other couples and challenge them to a game of ultimate frisbee, soccer, or basketball? Grab one other couple and play a game of tennis. Or you could also join a baseball or bowling league and make it a reoccurring date each week.

10. Go to a Dance Class

If you’re having a hard time getting your significant other to agree to a dance class just let them know that you will be spending a lot of time up close and personal, there will be some flirting, and maybe even some sexual tension. I hope that helps. 🙂 With dance styles ranging from Tango, to Salsa, to line dance or ballroom I’m sure you’ll find something that will work for you. Don’t forget to have fun and even laugh at each other and yourself a little bit.

11. Biking

Find a local bike path and get pedaling. Biking is great exercise and it’s even more fun if you have someone to bike with. Don’t forget your helmets!

12. Ping Pong

You don’t have to be good to get up and try. You might be surprised at how fast you can pick up the game. It creates a great opportunity for conversation while moving back and forth with the ball.

13. Mini Staycation

Spend the day exploring at a local amusement park, museum, or zoo. You will be having so much fun going on rides or looking at interesting things that you won’t even realize how much walking you’re doing.

14. Skating

Find an indoor ice rink and have fun together while getting a great work out for your core, legs, and glutes. Skate hand in hand or while hanging on for dear life to your loved one’s arm or body–either way, there are plenty of opportunities to be close to your mate. There are also plenty of opportunities for laughter, don’t forget the camera.

15. Go for a walk

Go to your favorite park and go for a walk. It can be romantic strolling hand and hand and talking about life. Pack a blanket and some food and have a picnic too. Making out after eating your picnic is also a great way to burn calories. 😉
