The Best Edible Playdough made with peanut butter truly does exist! Five simple ingredients come together to combine playtime with snack time.
Edible Playdough
For all of those peanut butter lovers out there, you are going to love this recipe. Simple to make, fun to play with and even better to eat it.
My kids have been home and I’m trying to find things to keep them entertained and keep them engaged. This activity lasted a whole afternoon! Definitely a win for team Mom!
Only 5 ingredients are in this recipe that are easy to find and most of us already have them in our homes.
Searching for the Best Edible Playdough
While I searched for a good edible playdough recipe, I found most of them have honey and taste pretty blah. While it tastes good enough, it’s greasy and doesn’t color well for the play dough aspect.Â
My Mom is the hero in this story because she already had this recipe. What I love about this recipe is that it is NON-greasy and absolutely delicious.
What is the Best Peanut Butter to Use?
For this recipe, I recommend to go with a smooth and creamy peanut butter. Chunky would give it a weird texture, but I’m sure it would still taste good.
I’ve never tried to make it with the natural peanut butter that needs to be stirred before using. With that separation of the oil from the peanut butter, I’m not sure if it would hold up in the long run.
Can Babies Play with Edible Playdough?
This recipe contains peanut butter and it is wise to be mindful peanuts is a common, possibly life threatening allergy for some.
The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology recommends introducing peanut butter to your baby only after other solid foods have been fed to them safely, without any symptoms of allergies.
Peanut butter is safe to try for children over the age of 6-8 months if they show no signs of allergies.
How Long Will the Edible Playdough Last
It never lasts one day in my house because it tastes so good! But if you don’t want the kids or yourself to eat it all that first day, simply store it in storage ziplock bag for maximum freshness.
If properly put away, this edible playdough will stay fresh for 3-6 months.
How to Make Edible Playdough
This is a very simple recipe that your kids can help make. What a fun way to teach them measurements and they will love to stir it all together.
You will place all the ingredients in a bowl and stir them together. It’s really that easy! No cooking involved.
Here’s the ingredient list:
- 1 cup Peanut Butter
- 1/4 cup Karo Syrup
- 1 stick Butter (softened)
- 2 Tbsp Vanilla
- 3 cup Powdered Sugar
How to Color the Edible Playdough
Red, blue, yellow and green are the colors we made with this recipe.
After the playdough is mixed up, separate into sections to make a little of each color.
Add a few drops of food coloring to the edible playdough and mix it together. *caution, this is messy and you should wear gloves if you have them.
