Benefits of Massage, Mountainside Spa

The benefits of massage have greatly improved my health, and I am certain that I do not take advantage of the positive effects it has to offer enough. Do you remember that day in gym class when the girls and boys were separated to have their spines checked to see if you had scoliosis? I do. No one really explained what it was, how it happened to you, or the effects it could have on your health. All I knew was that I did NOT want to have it, because whatever IT was it must be bad. I passed.

Fast forward a few years and I was a Junior on the high school drill team dancing aggressive hours a day with hundreds of which felt like thousands of high kicks. Now that I think of it, it probably was thousands. I have been a dancer my whole life but this changed me. My back started having serious pains which made it painful to walk, sleep, or get comfortable. I decided to go to a chiropractor because my brother’s girlfriend worked there and suggested I come. We did the x-rays, checked my flexibility, and the balance of my stance. I was horrified when the doctor sat me down and told me that I had scoliosis. I was alone when I found out this news and he told me that I would need daily therapy and that it would most likely effect my back significantly through my pregnancies.

Because of the pain I was in I purposefully didn’t try to get into ALL of the competition dances because I knew it would give my back a break to be a “back up” dancer on the side. I didn’t tell my dance adviser about my therapy and I kept this fact a secret about myself. How silly is that?

After treatments with the chiropractor my health improved, I had to maintain treatment through the year. As my life has gone on I have found massage has saved me in creating overall health and wellness. I have scar tissue build up from that time I was on the drill team and it still effects my lower hip and back. With pregnancies, carrying children around, and day to day strain massage is one thing that makes me feel normal again.

It is silly that I was ever ashamed of scoliosis and even more so that I didn’t see to the treatment of it sooner.

My next goal is to find insurance that pays for my treatments! Ha! I wish. I was thrilled to go to the new Mountainside spa in Holladay. The staff was so friendly and really attentive to my specific needs. Mountainside is a “green” spa that uses all earth friendly ingredients for the products they use on your body and face. I did a massage/facial treatment that was so dreamy. It was my first time getting a massage/facial back to back and I highly recommend it! You can actually book your visit online HERE.

Mountainside Spa will be hosting a grand opening happening September 10th from 11 am to 7 pm! You can win free treatments and products. This is an open house so you can come in any time you would like!
