Congratulations! You have taken that big step and finally purchased a home of your own. Through all the meetings with your realtor and walking through many houses, you have found the one you will turn into a home. As a first time home owner, there are many items you will need to secure the safety of not only your property, but also your family. Below you will find a list of items you will want to purchase to make your new home the best it can be now and in the years to come.

  1. Tool Kit – From hammer and nails to different kinds of screw drivers, you will be needing a full fledged tool kit to not only fix things around the house, but to hang decorations as well.
  1. Long Extension Cord – This will come in handy in a variety of ways from home improvement projects, to yard work, to hanging Christmas lights.
  1. Fire Extinguisher – Safety first! You have a lot more to lose now should a fire break out.
  1. Driveway Sealant – Not only will taking the time to seal your driveway add to your home’s curb appeal, it will make it last a lot longer as well.
  1. Wet/Dry Vac – Whether it is unclogging a drain, sucking up liquid from a spill, or simply doing some great cleaning, these vacuums should be in every home.
  1. Toilet Triage – A plunger, an auger, rubber gloves, and a bucket will come in handy as bathroom emergencies get to be fixed by you now instead of a landlord.
  1. Bucket – This seems simple, but a bucket can be put to use in many way, both for storing cleaning items and for emergency situations.
  1. Ladder – Handy for putting up lights, cleaning out gutters, fixing hard to reach ceiling fixtures, painting, and a variety of other homeowner tasks.
  1. New Thermostat – Get a programmable thermostat to increase heating and cooling efficiency.

  1. Extra Plungers – You may not have had as many bathrooms in your old place, so as you furnish your new bathrooms, be sure to include a plunger in each one. This will avoid awkward situations with guests or family members.
  1. Alarm System – Paying for an alarm service will give you the peace of mind so whether you are simply going to sleep, or you are away on a trip, you will know your home is safe.

  • Moving form apartment to a house brings a lot of pros and cons! In my opinion it’s better living in a spacious place rather than in a tiny box.
