How to Heal Cracked Feet Quickly

Most of us get our toe nails painted to have cute feet, but we seem to forget the heels also need to look good and be healthy. I was trying on some clothes in a dressing room and noticed these deep cracked dry heels on my own feet. I never noticed my heels looked like that and it looked like they were going to crack any day.

There are so many ways that you can develop dry feet which can lead to cracked feet which can cause itching, painful cracks, or ultimately infection. Let us help you heal those heels and prevent them from happening again.

You may notice a theme that I have been concerned about lately…dry air! I am now going to share with you how to heal cracked feet quickly because this is something I struggle with, mostly because I always run around barefoot and now that I am getting older I realize it has a major effect on my skin. I recently wrote a post on how to treat your dry hair and a dry nose, so let’s get to your skin!

Why do the heels on our feet crack?

According to the Mayo Clinic, “heels can crack when the skin around the rim of your heel becomes dry and thick, and increased pressure on the fat pad under the heel causes the skin to split.” Here are some of the reasons they crack.

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Exposing your feet to water too often
  • Wearing open-heel footwear such as sandals
  • Aging
  • Medical conditions
  • Being overweight
  • Using un-moisturizing soaps while bathing

Tips on how to heal deep cracked heels:

Treating your feet doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or take a lot of time, but you must be consistent if you want to see real change!

*Use mild soaps that are nourishing to your skin while bathing

*Do not use products containing alcohol on your feet as this will dry up your skin

*For overall skin health and elasticity make sure you are drinking plenty of water

*Use a natural oil to moisturize your skin

*Apply lotion to your feet after bathing and exfoliating.

How to Heal Cracked Feet Overnight in 3 Easy Steps

This is my go to cracked feet remedy. If you follow this routine for one week, you will notice a HUGE difference. You could even keep this routine up for two weeks if you are needing a little more foot therapy. Be careful not to exfoliate too aggressively, especially if you are doing this on a nightly routine. Be particularly careful if you have deep cracks in your skin, you may even want to use a loofah to exfoliate those areas if they are too sensitive.

  1. Take a bath or make a foot bath for yourself with warm water. Not too hot or that will actually pull moisture from your skin.
  2. Add bath salts to the water and give yourself an exfoliating scrub. I usually just use a foot stone or even my fingernails to scrape the bottom of my heel if I don’t have a scrub handy.
  3. After your bath apply lotion to your feet and go to bed with socks left on through the night.

Products I love to use for deep cracked heels

I have always trusted Vaseline for taking off my mascara and treating my sore nose or chapped lips, they have actually come out with a new formula Vaseline® Intensive Care™ Healing Serum with 10x’s the healing power that would work wonderfully for getting your feet ready for flip flops. So when I was asked to do a review on their new lotion line I was happy to give it a try!

How does Vaseline Intensive Care Work so Well?

–The formula contains three superior quality ingredients – PPAR Activators, Elastomers and Vaseline® Jelly – that work together to moisturize and heal dry skin.

  • PPAR Activators begin healing by penetrating the surface skin to replenish lipids and moisturizes to boost skin’s natural renewal cycle.
  • Micro-droplets of Vaseline Jelly form a protective layer on the surface of skin to prevent moisture loss.
  • Elastomers are then added to deliver the luxurious silky, smooth product feel.
  • Together these three ingredients moisturize to provide an effective dry skin healing regimen perfect for everyday skin care

Varieties of Vaseline Intensive Care

You can try one of the three new varieties, if you are looking to heal dry, cracked feet, I would suggest going for the Deep Repair as it is designed to repair damaged, cracked skin. All three are available at food, drug and mass retailers for $7.99 nationwide. I really like the scent of all three, but I think that radiance restore is my favorite because it has cocoa butter in it. It left my skin feeling smooth and not too oily.

Advances Relief – moisturizes to heal and calm severely dry skinb

Radiance Restore – moisturizes to heal and restore radiance to dry, dull skin

Deep Repair – Deeply moisturizes to heal rough cracked skin

“Summer Feet” Ready in Just 7 Days

As Summer Approaches, say good bye to your shoes and show off your feet in those cute sandals you’ve been wanting to wear for months. I’ll usually do the 3 Easy steps for a week at the start of summer.

If you’re like me, I walk around barefoot and wear flip flops a lot during the summer which will give your feet and heels that dry dull look. All you need to do is repeat the 3 Easy steps periodically throughout the summer and your heels will become smooth and healthy time and time again.
