Beginner’s Guide to Sea World

Guide to Sea World, Sea World, Things to do at Sea World, Activities, California, family time

We just got back from an amazing trip to California where we stayed a few days in Disneyland, a day in Legoland and a day in Sea World. I loved breaking up our visit to Disney to have a slower paced day in Sea World; it was tranquil and fun! Sea World sponsored us in going, but because it has been years since I went as a child I felt like I was seeing it for the first time. Right now is actually an amazing time to buy a ticket to go because you can pay for the day and get the entire year free!

1. Schedule out the shows you would like to see and fit the other sites in around them

There are three main shows that you will want to fit in. “One Ocean”, Blue Horizons, and Sea Lions Live. People typically start filling up the seats 20-25 minutes before a showing, so you may want to plan ahead with that.

Sea Lions Live was my favorite. The performers were very funny and entertaining and they followed a plot line of “finding a bad guy.” My kids thought is was really funny too.

Blue Horizons uses over 30 people and 70 animals to put on a gorgeous display of diving, choreography, splashing, and dance. There was a princess theme to this show and my daughter really liked the interaction of the divers and the animals!

And last, but not least One Ocean! My favorite part of this show was that they shared with you a video and story about their most recent baby Shamu that was born December 2014. The two Uncles and Mother of the Whale in labor were together as the mother whale birthed her baby. In what seemed a matter of moments that baby was born and swam to the surface in unison with its family to take it’s first breath. God and his creations are really breath taking. I realize that there has been a lot of heat coming to Sea World because of the documentary on killer whales and while I don’t like to see a baby animal of any kind taken away from its mother, I can see that Sea World is supporting healthy family relationships within their capability. As well as rescuing sea life that is in a life-threatening situation. To date, in the first few months of this year they have already saved over 92 sea life animals that were reported as being in danger, you can actually call them and they will come to the rescue! As I am not ocean-side I don’t see animals in this situation, but it made me happy to know that someone has their best interest as heart and is looking out for them.

2.Trust the “SOAK ZONE” signs!

I must admit, I didn’t take this seriously enough and ended up scaling the seats behind me to get away! My camera and my baby did NOT want to get wet, so be smarter than me and consider this when picking your seat. My older son didn’t mind too much!

3. Make time to see the other animals you may not expect to see!

I was in love with seeing the flock of flamingos at Sea World. I had no idea there were so many and it was a rare treat to gaze upon their beauty!

4. Allow time to explore the kid zones

My kids were loving the splash pads and the crawling gym area. It was a nice break from the crowds at Disney and gave us a chance to take it easy and eat a snack. There are also a handful of really fun rides that you can go on as well.

5. Do the Shark Experience

I apologize for this picture not being the best quality, but I snapped it while trying to catch the expression on my husband’s face. He has never been a fan of sharks and this was a brave moment for him. I am not sure if my daughter was holding on to him or he was holding on to her! 🙂

6. Feed the Animals

There are so many opportunities to have up close interaction with the animals at Sea World. You can buy fish to feed the Sea Lions, Dine with the Whales, pet the sharks, or even have your own Dolphin Experience.

You can even allow the sucker fish to “Dine” on you!

It was so fun to go to Sea World with my brother and his family creating memories for our kids with their cousins to last a lifetime! If you are heading to California any time soon you must make Sea World part of your stay, we had such a wonderful time!
