We love green smoothies at my house! They are super easy to make and they are good for you, but the best part is they taste good too! My boys love when they see me pull out the blender because they know they are about to have a tasty smoothie. I usually don’t measure my...
We love green smoothies too. They are the absolute only way I can get fruits and veggies into my uber-picky 7 year old.
Thanks for the tip about spinach cubes. I’m always throwing out bad spinach– or leaving the spinach out of our smoothies because we ran out. Spinach cubes are brilliant!!
Great tip about the spinach cubes! I have just frozen the whole bag before (in leaf form), because I figure I am only using it for smoothies.
That looks so yummy!! I need to go but some spinach and freeze it!! Great ideas.
Luv the frozen spinach hint! I hate it when the greens go bad before I can use them! I freeze all my fruits but never thought of the veggies!
Love green smoothies. I used to do the frozen cubes for baby food as well. Blend up a bunch of sweet potatoes, peas, quinoa, etc. and label each bag. Then, I could easily thaw as many food cubes as I needed as well as mix and match a couple different ones together for different combinations. 🙂
I make baby food too! My freezer is a rainbow of cubes…every color you can imagine! Thanks for reading, I’m glad you love green smoothies as much as I do! 🙂
Love the smoothie! Making another batch today and then freezing the rest of my spinach and kale! Thanks!
How much water should I add to the spinach or greens?
I’m glad you like the smoothie! I start out with just a little water, maybe 1/4 cup and start blending. Then add a few tablespoons at a time until it’s blending easily. It all depends on how much spinach or kale you have in the blender. Good luck!
Great tip about the spinach…I have the same problem of not being able to use up the entire bag. Quick question, after freezing the spinach in the ice trays do you transfer them to another container like a tupperware with a cover?
Yes, I put my frozen spinach cubes in a zip lock bag, I haven’t ever tried tupperware, but I’m sure that would work as well.
When bananas are on sale I buy several bunches. I peel them and but them into thirds the perfect size to add to my smoothie… Next I put all the pieces on a small plater and put it int he freezer. once the bananas are froozen i store them in plactic freezer bags till needed. TIP froozen bananas are an awsome snack they taste better than popscicles and better for you too just slice em and enjoy
You don’t have to blend your greens to freeze them, I freeze my fresh greens in zipper bags; collards, kale, mustard greens, spinach, chard, whatever, they go right in the freezer when I bring them home.
Here’s how…If they’re fresh from the produce section I wash them in the sink with water then let them dry off a little in a colander – put them in bags and freeze. If I buy the pre-washed, pre-packaged type, I put them right in the freezer in the bag they come in. I’ve done this for years after having the same experience with greens going bad before I could use them up.
Hope this helps you all!
